Guest guest
I would hazard a guess if a doctor is active earning a living s/he probably reads 1 or 2 favorite journals. When I was employed and leading the group that implemented PCs I read PC-Week,that's it but I always welcomed items in other journals that others recommended. I never ever filed any product announcements, hardware or software and if you were a salesman and wanted to send me lit. on something I would let you tell me what you were going to send. Then I'd tell them when they got it packaged instead of putting postage on it to throw it in their waste basket! The first step in an evaluation was to identify who could satisfy our needs and trust me, I had 3 Analysts that could have that boiled down in a day or two and we never included phantom ware! You know, Vapor Ware that is not quite ready but will be ready in 3 months! It's a little different but the Information Age has progressed to The Information Overload Age! Guest guest
I have to jump in here assuming I know who you are talking about and add this is a little out of context. You have to give her credit that she remembered what she had been taught. She had attempted to treat the PTN's HTN for a couple and when a HTN specialist became available she jumped at it! (And when the DX was shared with her and it was suggested that she reserve judgement until after she read the " Evo. of PA " she promised she would have it read by next appt.) I'll bet Dr. G.'s beer that she finds the next one and looks at each PTN with HTN A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY! - 64 yo morb. ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank & testicle pain. Guest guest
Some journals run upwards of $1000 a year. The internet has opened a new world, but we live in a money world and to get full articles not just abstracts and the "subscriptions" run hundreds of dollars. Most just can't get them anymore due to cost. And these journals also think they will recoup the cost by raising prices on them. I never understood that. If you LOWER prices you'd probably get 3 subscribers for each amount you had raised the price by, but also likely LOST customers when you raised the price. Lower cost = more subscribers = more advertisers because there are more readers seeing their ads = more money for the journal to stay afloat. Instead it's always knee jerk to jack prices up. Guest guest
You're missing the point. Anyone can claim to be anyone on the internet - I'm not talking about licensing, I'm talking about how without a phone number and an office address, it's impossible to verify that you are indeed a doctor, let alone a doctor named Clarence Grim. On the web there is somebody else who shares the same unusual name that I have. She has published extensively in a similar academic field to the one I once studied. We are the same age and live in the same state. We even look like we could be sisters. I could very, very easily claim to be her, and few would be the wiser. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Kind of funny. Guest guest
Is that why we only know you as " msmith " ? Maybe you should do DNA testing, she might be the sister you never knew! (My ~46y/o nephew just got introduced to his daughter and two grandchildren by a knock on the door! Yep, DNA confirmed it and all she wanted was to know was any health issues on her father's side! She got much more than that, an extended family including G.Grandparents for her children (and some info including a heart attack from GGDad at age 34!) > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Kind of funny.
