Guest guest
I have not had a hysterectomy or a partial, but I am a candidate. When I spoke to my dr. about what the procedure entailed, she told me that the uterus would be removed but NOT the ovaries. Unfortunately, I'd rather everything go since I don't need it anymore and why risk leaving the ovaries in and having something possibly attack them. Might as well take it all. You would not get a period after the uterus was removed, but you will go through menapausal type symptoms and many women experience strong emotional/mental fluctuations, as well. That's all I can offer you. HTH, Karmen question off autism topic can one tell me if the doctor takes out the uterus but leaves of the ovaries or one of them will it sitll make of me have of periods and hormones and cramping and such , can one explain what the difference to my body would be? I to be of had that one pill and while it didnot make of me physically ill I to be of just this day really come to think it might have played a huge part in my severe drop into depression that was of so severe and the thinkings of suicide were of so strong and wonder if this was of the cause of it as have battled that feelings and emotional state off and on in life but this time for around a month it was of so severe. some list i to spoke of it and some not, sometimes tried of to stay connected and sometimes had of no energy too. last week I to vented to a person of our MRDD as she asked if I would be of interest to write of a story to their magazine. and instead of being able to respond with my usual state of being i to vented in my crisis and sended a powerpoint that had of my most private and strongest emotional states and thinking. but did not remember the last two slides were of a strong message of suicide as had worked on this a few weeks back and was of just remembering the reasons of why so frustrated were of lack of services and being of locked out of many programs because of age and or gender or other variety of things. Well this head of MRDD which I to not be of angry too and do have a knowing of her but still she is of more a stranger to me so should have not vented out things to a stranger sort of person but not thinking of that when in crisis, just knew to reach out to whoever was of reaching in. well teh called of the police to me for the crisis levels and any who knows of me knows of my intense fear of police so that escalated of me friday for much of the day. anyways I to kep of wondeing to me what is of wrong with me , why cant my brain just be right in my head and such and then it occured the only things new to me was of this birth control pill and even though it is of a low dose and such it has been of affecting of me maybe emotionally in a huge way. for self cant wait to see of the world specialist on Mitochondrial disease as he is of also an investigator and will do many many test to me to find the causes and so hopefully he will discover of why my hormones tend to affect me so greatly. and even though stopped of taking that pill last week or so my body is of in a non stop cramping below as if on my monthly sort of cramping and not even due as just got off of it last week but the cramping is of not copeable much. and does interfer with much of my life. the abliations will stop of maybe only the flow but will not stop the parts of my life that are of impacting of me greatly so was of wondering to push of the issues to him over the partial hystorectomy, sondra
Guest guest
Sondra, Since you are still pre-menopausal, your ovaries will usually continue to function and secrete hormones even after the uterus is removed, but the lifespan of the ovaries is reduced by an average of 3 - 5 years. I'm not sure how old you are, but it's possible that you could go into menopause shortly after a hysterectomy, even if the ovaries are retained, because the surgery has permanently cut off the ovaries' blood supply. So, while you might get some relief from your period symptoms, menopause can bring on other unpleasant symptoms. Isn't being a woman fantastic? (not) Just a little sarcasm... The good news is that there are many things you can do to reduce perimenopausal and postmenopausal symptoms, but you'll just have to wait and see how your body reacts. And it will be good for you to stop taking that hormone pill as well. > can one tell me if the doctor takes out the uterus but leaves of > the ovaries or one of them will it sitll make of me have of periods > and hormones and cramping and such , can one explain what the > difference to my body would be? > > I to be of had that one pill and while it didnot make of me > physically ill I to be of just this day really come to think it > might have played a huge part in my severe drop into depression > that was of so severe and the thinkings of suicide were of so > strong and wonder if this was of the cause of it as have battled > that feelings and emotional state off and on in life but this time > for around a month it was of so severe. > > some list i to spoke of it and some not, sometimes tried of to stay > connected and sometimes had of no energy too. > > last week I to vented to a person of our MRDD as she asked if I > would be of interest to write of a story to their magazine. and > instead of being able to respond with my usual state of being i to > vented in my crisis and sended a powerpoint that had of my most > private and strongest emotional states and thinking. but did not > remember the last two slides were of a strong message of suicide as > had worked on this a few weeks back and was of just remembering the > reasons of why so frustrated were of lack of services and being of > locked out of many programs because of age and or gender or other > variety of things. Guest guest
do you know if the emotioinal issues will be of the same or worse for me. I to also know that this doctor i to think it was of him twice shared he had a hard time finding the right ovary, as it was not out to the side as it should be but is setting backwards towards the back so no wonder of the female issues and pains, so if had of them take out the uterus and that ovary it will still give of me hormones and maybe at a more copeable level or will it cause me to produce more to compensate, does anyone know if menopuase suddenly will be of worse for me than the curent peri menopause issues. I to be of just so much sick of hurting 3 weeks of every months, and feeling not right inside of my tummy from the issues the pain causes of me from stress. I to not be of to know if this is of the cause of so much emotional chaos to me or if it is of more language and awareness and more over all life and world awareness that is of impacting me. I to also not know if because of this connections to the world outside of me throughmy computer is of not letting me self regulate and learn how to monitor self. But regardless the difference between now and back as a teen is as a teen did not have an outlet or language to this level so I could be to communicate nor did I to have anyone to communicate too. so it came out as much more behavior of SIB out of pure internal chaos, fear, pain and frustrations. where now still struggle to all of those things i tohave less SIB and more words but vent it out instead of hit it out. but at the same causing all this social taboo of emotional dumping and crisis levels. so wanted to say of sorry to all of my list people for all this constant dumping of emotional states as really have no clue to what is of going on in me but it feels like a similar version of life at age of 13. When was more isolated it was less chaos the more I to try to connect the more chaos that happens to me. sondra
Guest guest
cathy i to be of 46 now and the birth family members of me much so often go to early menopuase and go gray early. yes i to hate of being of a female person. it is of not only socially painful it is of pysically painful. As i to shared not feel female not feel male. I to just exist as a ME gender which has no real stereotyping.but others see of the female and try of to force of that role and stereotyped fashions to me and it crashes with my inner state. it does not mean not like to do things that are of common among females such as activities and objects but also have just as many male ways and objects i to like as well. I to not be of a girly girl as one call of it nor a real tomboyish fashion about me either/. but i to think many share the thinking I to have is not scientifically logical for me to rid self of this hormonal things. sondra

I don't think anyone can predict that, Sondra, but my mother had a hysterectomy at 35 and she did not have any unpleasant menopause symptoms at all. She had huge fibroids and other hormonal problems and they all went away after her hysterectomy. Since you are 46 and have a family history of early menopause, I would go ahead and do a full hysterectomy, but only if you are already considering a partial, and not just the uterine ablation. Then you can tackle any issues related to menopause IF they should appear. You still don't know that they will and what they will be. And as I mentioned, there are many effective ways to alleviate menopausal symptoms.

Or are they essentially 'dead weight'? I'm enjoying an uneventful menopause. It's wonderful -- no hot flashes, no mood swings, no loss of lubrication, no nothing. Just no periods! However, I am considering having my ovaries removed as I am prone to cysts. Given that cysts are less common in post-menopausal women, I don't want to be faced with constantly monitoring them in the years to come. (My mom died of ovarian cancer late in life, so I'm somewhat at risk.) Although if my ovaries are still secreting useful hormones, I would prefer not to put my carefree menopause at risk either. Any thoughts? Best, ~CJ
Guest guest
Hey CJ, The ovaries still produce hormones after menopause, particularly testosterone, which you definitely need and want. If you're doing well now, I wouldn't mess around with your good fortune. Count your blessings and in my professional opinion, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! :-) > cathylynn2 wrote: > > << Since you are still pre-menopausal, your ovaries will usually > continue to function and secrete hormones even after the uterus is > removed, but the lifespan of the ovaries is reduced by an average of > 3 - 5 years. >> > > > , do the ovaries continue to secrete hormones once a woman enters > menopause? I hate the idea of removing any parts (unless it is absolutely necessary) not knowing how they may impact the overall endocrine system. You're right that testosterone is my friend. However, I was not aware that this hormone was produced by the ovaries. In my conversation with the OBGYN who suggested surgery, she was very quick to point out that my ovaries were of little use to me following menopause. I was like, hmmmm. I'm sure it's more cost-effective for the HMO to authorize a simple laparoscopic procedure than monitor my ovarian cysts (via regular ultrasounds) for the rest of my years. Also, this particular OBGYN's area of professional interest is laparoscopic surgery, so she may be biased. Best, ~CJ
