My great-nephew, now 2, has been on goat's milk since he was four weeks old. I had seen a recipe for infant formula somewhere and used that for him. (I'll copy that at the end of this) His mom had a tough time breastfeeding and after trying several formulas - that he promptly threw up - she called me. I know everyone advocates raw milk here but I admit pasteurizing his (I have a home pasteurizer I use when I need to) until he was about one. I worried since I could only deliver his milk once a week. During that time he was given a shot of raw milk kefir every day so when he made the switch he was fine with it. Since then he's been on regular ol' raw milk. My great-neices who I babysit several times a week have been on raw milk since they were six months old. They

are 3 and 1. As soon as Laney could hold the sippy cup she became a 'Smoothieholic' made from my goat's milk yogurt and fruit juice with a little raw milk to thin it a bit. All of the young'uns are doing great and keep me running. Whew... do they ever!

The Ultimate Goat's Milk FormulaFrom Train Up Your Children in the Way They Should Eat by Sharon BoerDay 1 to Day 3Colostrum ( if not available where you purchase your goat milk, mix 1 ouncegoat milk with 3 to 4 capsules of powdered colostrum)Day 4 to Day 72 parts raw goat milk, 1 part colostrumFor infants older than one week, add the following ingredients below to onegallon of goat milk and shake well. Then pour the formula into bottles foryour baby.1 week to 3 months½ tsp. blackstrap molasses (unsulfured)Contents of 1 capsule folic acid (800 mcg.)Contents of 1 capsule vitamin E (100 I.U. capsules, mixed tocopherols)1/16 tsp. vitamin C (powdered ascorbate 2000 mg.)Add to first and last bottle daily after bottle is warmed:Flaxseed oil-5 dropsCod liver oil-5 drops3 months to 5 monthsIncrease:Vitamin C to

¼ tsp.*Flaxseed oil to 10 dropsCod liver oil to 10 drops5 monthsAdd ½ oz. fresh carrot juice to each bottle (this prepares the baby's systemfor pureed food in the sixth month)6 months to 12 monthsTwice a day add the following oils only after the bottle is warmed:Cod liver oil:-1 tsp.Flaxseed oil-1 tsp.Increase vitamin C to ½ tsp. and blackstrap molasses to 1 tsp. per gallon ofmilk.*NOTE: If baby' stool becomes runny, cut back on vitamin C. If stool isstill runny, cut back on cod liver oil.Cod liver oil is one of the best natural sources of Vitamin D for your baby.Vitamin D is what helps the body absorb calcium. I use the mint-flavoredcod liver oil because the mint helps aid digestion, too. Remember that thisis an oil, and it needs to be stored in the refrigerator after it's opened.I use the Dale brand. It is excellent, an we

haven't had anyproblems with it. The kids get used to it.Blackstrap molasses prevents iron deficiency. Watch to see if the baby getsa little bit of a red bottom or rash because it is too strong for him atthis time. Some babies are ready for it at six months, and some aren't. Soyou look at what I call baby's "nutritional barometer"-his little bottom. If it is starting to turn red, then cut back on the blackstrap molasses.Watch the water. Newborn infants very rarely need any extra water as longas the mother is drinking plenty of water. The first 3 months of mother'smilk should be the total supply of nutrition and food. As they get olderand are more active, you can start infants on about an ounce of distilledwater a day. You can give it to them by the spoonful, and they will drinkit.Freeze the goat milk. If you can obtain a large supply of goat milk, youcan freeze to for up to 6 months. If

you a buying it by the gallon andfreezing it, thaw it out a gallon at a time. One gallon of milk may lastyou a week, but remember it has nothing in it to keep it from spoiling. Itis raw nutrition, so it isn't going to last as long as other milks from thestore. If you are not going through it very quickly, do freeze your goatmilk
