Guest guest
Thanks for that Offer Esther! I really hope it can help some parents here! Speaking of products that help our girls, I'm wondering if anyone has or knows of a product that I can get to deter my daughter from unbuckleing her carseat buckle?! We used to have a car seat that was very difficult to unlatch for little fingers and I loved it. Unfortunately my daughter reached the weigh limit for that seat and the only ones on the market to keep her in a safe 5 point harness till she's a bit older and hopefully better able to sit still in the car seat or a booster, is the Britax seats. The one we have will hold her till she's 85lbs however the buckle is different and is just a plain push button and she quite frequently will push it unlatching her buckles and causing us to have to pull over and rebuckle her in! One day a few weeks ago she nearly got the door open! We dual sliding doors on the van and while the child lock was always on, on her side, it was not on my older daughter's side so that she could let herself out of the van. I had to put the child lock on now and my 11 year old is not too happy with having to be let out 'like a baby' as she puts it. But I can't risk getting out of her seat and getting to the door and opening it before I'm able to safely pull over and out of traffic to get her back into her seat. Anyone know of anything? Or suggestions if your child did the same thing? Thanks, Theresa > > Hi Everyone, > > I was just thinking about a way to help everyone on here and their girls. Guest guest
 Hey Theresa  I had the same problem with my little one and I found a product on ebay. I am in Australia but I am sure she would ship internationally. Or you could look at it and have someone make you something similar. I will find the link to her ebay store and post it. Guest guest
Hi Esther  I was wondering how long till your boys book comes out? I have a friend with a son on the spectrum and since we are in Australia probably better to get 2 shipped together than 2 lots of shipping ?  Subject: Discount of Potty Training book To: Autism_in_Girls Received: Tuesday, 16 September, 2008, 4:39 AM Hi Everyone,  I was just thinking about a way to help everyone on here and their girls. I couldn't think of anything for a while and then I realised that my books are doing very well and while I am not making a ton of profit off of them by any means, I am hearing wonderful things from everyone who has used No More Diaper for Girls with their girl - whether it has been a grandaughter, daughter, neice, student, or daycare child, they have all been having tremendous success.  While my book can be purchased at Amazon.com, Target.com, Borders.com, Borders Book Stores, Gulivers Book Stores, and soon & Noble and Fred Meyer... I can not offer you a discount at those places. So, I have decided that what I can do to help out, is to let anyone who has a daughter who is still not toilet trained or just anyone from this list order my book from my website AT A DISCOUNT. The most I can give off in the discount would be $2.00. I am sorry! I would love to just give a copy to everyone for free, but I can not. However, I know it works, It worked with both of my girls in under a week and for most of the people who have purchased it - in under a week.  Libraries are now buying it quickly and so hopefully soon you will all have one in your area that you can just loan from the library, but until then - if you would like one, I can offer you a $2.00 off discount at www.esthersmithbook s.com. When ordering, just type in the following code, into the e-mail text portion, if it doesn't work... just e-mail me off post and let me know and I will add the discount. Discount code: ES2OFF  If you would prefer to have your library purchase one, so that you and others can borrow it from them. Then please go to your local library and fill out a request this book sheet and tell them why it would help you and others. Then e-mail me off post with the name and contact info of your library and I can follow up with them to help your library to carry the book. All the libraries in my side of Portland are now going to be carrying it. So if anyone is here in Portland, it is likely that you can just go check it out at the library.  I really would like to help everyone somehow, and this was the only feasable way that I could think of.  For those of you who do not know... I published a potty training book for children with autism this year. It was just released mid April and has been doing very well in all the areas that I have been able to personally market to, but my publisher is not an advertiser. He simply publishes, so the marketing and website and telling people about the book and helping others to hear about it is all up to my husband and me. It is a very new field for us, but due to the wonderful results that the book is having, thankfully we haven't had to do much in the marketing, because once people try it, it works, so they have been telling their friends.  It is not anything crazy or NEW persay, but simply a detailed, step by step, directional book that I designed and illustrated for my girls who have autism. It worked with them so well that I am now excited to share it with all the other mothers, fathers, grandparents, teachers, etc. who are sick of poo smearing, changing diapers, and dealing with snotty comments from uneducated people who either judge our daughters, or us.  It works! I have not felt so free and happy in a very long time, and neither have my girls. They are suddenly blossoming and doing very well. They are so proud of themselves and tell everyone. They now know all the steps to going potty on the toilet - including washing their hands. In fact, two days ago I was in Costco with my 7 yr old daughter and she had to go potty. I took her in to go and she even made sure to tell all the people who began to walk out without washing their hands, " Excuse me, you need to wash your hands " . Amazingly enough, most of the women smiled and said " Your right, I forgot " and washed them (There was a big line in the bathroom:) - but not all of them, one lady got quite upset. I was rather embarrassed, but was proud of her for knowing how to do it right!  I know that No More Diaper for Girls can help the wonderful girls in your life and for those of you with " older girls " meaning above 8 years old and on up to adulthood. I think that this book is still worth a try for them, because I included a section that talks about the stages of life and that they do not have to accomplish a stage in life at a certain age, but rather when they are ready to graduate into the new stage. This is targeted at what is going on in their minds too, not just the illustrations of the exact steps. I really think it is at least worth trying. Just convince your library to carry it for you, if you are hesitant to order it yourself.  A family friend from my church group has a grandaughter with autism and she is 9 years old. She borrowed my copy of the book and tried it with her grandaughter while her daughter was having a baby and in the hospital. She said that it took 2 days of reading the book and that her 9 year olf autistic grandaughte r was potty trained.  It took 3.5 with both of my girls. Another mom on this list said it took 2 days, and three others said it took 4 days. Everyone else said that it took beween 5 and 7 days, but those are marvelous results and are so worth the effort and price.  I have a guarentee on the back of the book, that states that if your child should destroy the book and you need a new one that you can send me the destroyed one, and get a new one for free. I did this, because my children used to destroy books and tear them apart. This book is a 32 pg, full color, board book, but that didn't matter with my children. My kids would destroy everything. I always wished I would have had something like that. So, I am now offering that to everyone who purchases the book.  The boy version is in the process of being printed, for those of you with boys too, like me and for those of you who know some boys with autism. It takes a few months for this whole Printing Process, so I think it will be about December before the Boy version is complete, so I need to update my website. But It is completed on my end and will be available soon.  You can check out No More Diaper for Girls and other products at  http://www.esthersm ithbooks. com/girlpotty. html  http://www.esthersm ithbooks. com/otherproduct s.html And by the way, even though I made this book for those on the spectrum... My sisters have been using it with their girls and a few other parents have written me and though their children are not on the spectrum, it has been helping their children as well. However, not as quickly as the children with autism. For some reason for my sister's girls and the few others that have tried it, it took between 10 days and a month with them. It must speak more directly to our kids and those on the spectrum, or else these parents are trying to push their children when they are not ready yet (which may be possible too), but either way, it is still working, just taking a lot longer.  Hopefully this can help somebody, Sincerely, Esther
Guest guest
Hi Theresa  The lady I got mine from no longer has any for sale on ebay. But its very basic and it works. Its got material that basically looks like a mini breast plate. It has velcro to hold it on. It wraps around the bottom buckle and covers it. It also wraps around the two shoulder straps up to about belly button height. This pulls them a bit closer together so they cant take there arms out as well.  Also on Esthers site there is a seat buckle cover there.  > > Hi Everyone, > > I was just thinking about a way to help everyone on here and their girls. Guest guest
Oh! There is?? I was looking on her site, under the houdini things, lol. But didn't see anything there, then I got distracted with (she didn't have a good day at school today and has carried on to home too :*( ) I'll go back and look and see if it's something that we can use. Thanks! What you are describing is exactly what I've talked to my husband about getting, but can't seem to find them and I'm not a person with much in the way of sewing skills! LOL Thanks again ! Guest guest
Ok, I found the one on her site, however it seems it's for a regular seat belt, or possibly a carseat that has a release button on the top, but it says it's not for seat belts that have the button in the middle of the unit, which is the set up on 's carseat. Do you possibly have the one you were using? Not that I want yours, lol. but if you could take a picture of it, then I could possibly hit up a friend that has some sewing skills to devise something like it for us. Theresa > > Oh! There is?? Guest guest
I was just reading over the posts here about the car seat buckle cover. I do have one on my site, but I don't believe it would work for what you need. I have the same type of carseat that you have and I have had the same problem that you have. I have not found a cover or guard for it that I like and I didn't bother making my own yet, because what ended up happening with us is that had thrown up and I took the car seat apart and washed the lining and the straps and then when I put it all back together than I accidently put the left side buckle on the right side and vise versa. So, rather than take apart the whole thing that I had just threaded, I decided to turn the buckle around and buckle it backward, with the red button side down. I did that and have never had a problem since. I am sure if she really wanted to, she could figure out how to get out of the seat, but out of sight out of mind in this instance and so she has not ever even tried to take it off. I suppose you can try turning the buckle around. However... If it does not work, I would be happy to make a buckle cover that would work to hide the button for the same price or less than the other one we carry. If you guys want to e-mail me the picture, or if you just want me to come up with something, either is fine. I could then offer another product on my site Let me know if you are interested, and since it would be my first one, you could choose the color and style and we could name it after your daughter if you wanted I am serious about doing that for you. I am a very talented seemstress. I have not added a regular photo yet of my " No More Houdini Safety Top " because I didn't have one at the time I created my website, but now, it is just because I have been busy, and currently because I have most of my things packed up waiting for my house to go through, so that I can move. Serously, though, let me know. Esther >> > >> > Hi Everyone, >> > >> > I was just thinking about a way to help everyone on here and their >> girls.
