For instance my daughter woke up at 3:00 in the morning and although I was encouraging her to go back to sleep she kept getting up. So when getting ready for school and on our drive to school she just seemed so calm and happy. This is not the first time for this. It's almost funny to me even though I am extremly tired. I wonder what is going on with her. I just want to know everything she is thinking. I wonder if this slows her mind down some where she can concentrate better. Guest guest
my daughter has never slept very much....I have just gotten used to it. She is 6 years old. She sleeps in 3 hour shifts during the night. When she wakes up she reads a book or talks to her animals for awhile before going back to sleep. Good luck Becky Berry wrote: Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has noticed if there children with autism seem to function better with less sleep. Guest guest
Yes my daughter is the same way. I have learned to live without sleep. > my daughter has never slept very much....I have just gotten used to it. > She is 6 years old. She sleeps in 3 hour shifts during the night. Guest guest
mary there are of times I to find the same and the reason for it is my brain never really could find long hours of sleep. so on those rare times my brain would go to deep rem sleep fast and then in a four hour time my brain had of a good restful sleep and so after the 4 hours my brain was awake and alert and functioning. the other is of the world is less chaotic at 3 am and so less interference with thinking and so one is more clear at that time frame. there is of less over all noise, less over all house movements, no busyiness of the world outside with traffic noise and things of this. so it brings a functional calm . But if my sleep is of broken up in the night and not able to find the deep rem sleep my body will wake up very out of sync and disfunctional and with strong agitated moods of tears, frustrations over everything, SIB and more OCD and anxeity over everythings too. but if I ot get of that good rem sleep and i to wake up after a good 4 hour sleep or so what then happens is mid day or so my brain begins of the opposite and causes of me to have of agitiations due to being of want of to sleep or rest and cant. this can cause all sorts of behavioral responses to others and my environment. sondra
Guest guest
I have a lower " set point " for required sleep than many people too...or else need 12 hours to NOT be a zombie. I don't know why, just if I try to sleep a normal amount my brain feels all weird. It's like too much or not enough and I'm cranky and zonked. Sorry to not be more help! Guest guest
kassi interesint you shared of this right amount of sleep and I to think that for me this plays a huge part in my functionability in the day too. if I to get of too much I to wake feelingheavily sedated and so out of sync and if I to get of little sleep that is of broken up it causes me to be of aggressive and frustrated and agitated all day. my brain seems to really never get to a rem sleep most nights and just seems to get to that point and then it seems that it rapidly goes backward waking me back up. But on ocassions when I to get to that rem sleep and have sleeped hard for 4 hours I to wake most functional and alert. today is of an off day and have been to take of two naps and cant seem to feel rested yet. my brain just wants to sleep/ I to be having a non functional day. sondra
Guest guest
Thanks Sondra and Kassie, This is very interesting. She was great in the morning, but her teacher said she was very tempermental today at school. He said it went on for about an hour. She had half day and has been great at home so far. Do one of you know why my daughter may almost never have a great day all together? She either has a good day at school and not when she gets home or it will be the opposite, a bad day at school and a good day at home. Is it because it's just too much overstimmulation or sesory? Thank you so much > > kassi interesint you shared of this right amount of sleep and I to > think that for me this plays a huge part in my functionability in the > day too. if I to get of too much I to wake feelingheavily sedated and > so out of sync and if I to get of little sleep that is of broken up it > causes me to be of aggressive and frustrated and agitated all day. my > brain seems to really never get to a rem sleep most nights and just > seems to get to that point and then it seems that it rapidly goes > backward waking me back up. Guest guest
mary cant know for sure but one things that is of for me is of the one issues I to just shared the sleep or lack of it, the hunger if having a low blood sugar sort of day, the demands or expectations set on me, the overlaod of changes or sensory inputs that might be of not tolerated that moment for me.ususally when I to be out of sync I to need of breaks to recover for self. a power nap, a chance to focus to something outside of the demands to me such as TV or computer time. are they doing of a base line and doing an anecedent even from home such as her sleep and eating habit that morning. as those can be of cues to her over all day too. such as one little girl i to use to be of support she would have bad days if she ate of pancakes and like of me we discovered this food caused blood sugar sorts of drops and caused of her aggresions in the day until she ate of lunch and got of her blood sugar back in sync but then it usually crahsed about 2 hours later because of the dumping of food that her brain absorbed quickly from the low blood sugar drop that within an few hours it would crash again. so those days she had of bad days. if this was not discovered from the home base line it would be of hard for the school to ever had coorelated this. so now she is of not allowed to eat of pancakes in the school week. sondra

Guest guest
Allie almost always has a wonderful day at school after a night waking. Sometimes I would keep her home, I've found though that she gets a perfect behavior grade almost every time. Debi
Guest guest
If I over sleep i wake up cranky when I eventually wake up. 4 to 6 hours is what I like, with a nap during the day. I am a late bird early to rise. Been that way my whole life! http://speakup.today.com Subject: daughter functions better with lack of sleep To: Autism_in_Girls Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2008, 11:51 AM Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has noticed if there children with autism seem to function better with less sleep.
