A teacher in Wales is probably being struck off the list for bringing in a sledge to the school during the bad weather before Christmas. It was supposed to be for some classroom project but it was used later on the hill. He is being punished for not carrying out proper safety checks BEFORE going sledding. OK I guess there are rules to follow but what about just a some little form of punishment, NOT however having his livlihood taken away.....I fear we're raising a generation of cocooned kids who will fear everything as adults as they have had no exposure to real life and so no experience in sensing real danger.....JFrom: mel_thomsett

Could be an interesting result - everyone knows you'd have to be mad to go into teaching these days ;-)

As if it wasn't difficult enough to find good teachers without this nonsense.....

...... who thinks up all this stuff? I think they are the ones who should be tested!

Idea of testing people for suitability is helpful, only where the measures being tested actually represent the skill sets for good teachers. Sounds more like a way of avoiding large payouts for work related stress to me!

The most recent graduates are being shown really positive ways to motivate and teach kids... they enter a school of deadwoods who simply collect the pay cheque at the end of the month and within a term they are disillusioned..- and the kids suffer.

The starting point surely  is in testing existing teachers and identifying ways to skill their gaps and to hold LEAs more accountable and heads too...  so that these well skilled NQTs can come into an environment where their new knowledge is valued and a system of best practice happens.

Two teachers with responsibility for SEN failed to ensure DDs emergency medicine was stored correctly and out of date stuff removed from medical bag and replaced with up to date stuff.. When it was needed- they could not find proper meds only out of date stuff.. - have raised a formal complaint.. got the findings today and apparently the real problem is that I did not collect the old stuff and dispose of it!!- not that staff are incompetent and totally negligent in their duty of care.. where as this poor guy was actually allowing kids to do real life things which would teach responsibility, fun, taking care and team work.. and is been threatened with losing his job!!  Education in this country has gone mad.

Teachers? What are they? Where do we find one? My kids have had their entire education delivered by poorly educated mums off the school gate.

We've had quite a few friends try and get jobs as TA's over the

years. Some very highly qualified people with lots of experience.

I think a lot of schools like to take on pupils parents who have

done voluntary work within the school. It certainly happened in my

son's school.

My 20 year old daughter is interested in becoming a TA.

She has done voluntary work for our local pct run special

needs nursery and has worked as a SIPS (supporting

inclusion in pre schools) support worker to 3 little ones

(2 on the spectrum). She has been a nanny to triplets...

She is AMAZING (not that i'm biased at all.....!)

She knows pecs/makaton. Has worked on all the home

programmes that we've run over the years (aba/vb and rdi)

is well versed too in II and SonRise.

She is the most personable girl. She has a shiny quality

about her that just draws people out. When she comes to

visit Nic just downs whatever he is doing and is all over

her. When she leaves he stands at the window crying.

Can she get a job? Not so far folks! She doesn't have

enough experience for the schools (I wonder if maybe

'they' can sense the maverick gene in her?) I don't

understand it. Truly I don't.

When was leaving nursery to start at Hell School SLD his one to one who was also the nurserey manager, qualified nursery nurse, many years experience applied to the school for a vacant TA job, she wasn't even given an interview, you should have met the person that did get the job!

Iv'e also noticed at my other sons special school looking down their staff list there is an awful lot of people who share the same surname and some of them quite unusual ones at that.
