Greetings everyone. I'm very new to the video workout scene -- I started looking

at it when my treadmill (dreadmill)died and I needed motivation. I used to plop

my laptop in front of me and watch old tv shows while walking on the treadmill.

I'm 52, weigh about 175. I'm hoping to lose about 30 lbs. and keep working out

daily as best I can. I'm fairly healthy, although I have a herniated disc at

L4-5, and my wrists are bad. No bouncing or high impact stuff, and no pushups.

I have a treadmill, which I need to tear down and get a new belt, a simple

stationary bike, a mat, and some hand dumbbells. No medicine ball or the bigger

workout balls, no rubber band thingies. I do not have access to a pool -- unless

I get a better job so I can afford joining a health club.

I'm interested in both cardio and strength, and Pilates really helps my back.

I'm not sure my feet will hold up for running, and my build (short limbs, long

torso) is not that of a runner anyway. I also like walking and hiking.

I'm also looking for free internet workout videos. I found some at exercisetv.tv

but not much else. I'm looking for 30-40 minute workouts, and most from youtube

and such are only 2-4 minutes, just covering one exercise.

I hope to learn from the group experiences here, so now I'll stay back and lurk

a bit.

Hi Indyrose, welcome to the group!I'm in Portland, Oregon, used to teach Turbo Kick at 24 Hour Fitness, now I just work out a lot at my home gym, Studio LouLou, and am currently doing the ChaLEAN Extreme rotation put out by Beachbody.  They are taught by Chalene , also the creator of Turbo Kick (I'm a Chalene groupie).

You have come to the right place for workout ideas, as we are all Vidiots! For strength a good first video is Jari Love's Get Ripped, the first one.  For cardio - well I'm partial to kickboxing.

Have you tried your local library yet?  They often have lots of fitness dvd's!Have fun!

Our library has tons of video! That's the problem. I don't know one trainer from

another, or which styles to stay away from due to my disc injury. I also don't

want to invest a lot in " stuff, " so I'd like to know which one use a lot of

equipment and which ones just use the body. I'm reading and trying to sift

things out from this forum.

I'm also due for a new pair of shoes, and would like to hear some feedback on

which shoes do a good job. I currently wear Nike's cross trainers, and they are

wearing out. I've seen these " rockers " around, and I'm interested in knowing if

they are worth the investment.

Hi Indyrose! Welcome! I don't know very much about free internet workouts other than Netflix, but if you want to know about a particular instructor or workout, I'm fairly certain that somebody here on the list has tried it. :)
