Guest guest
Take him my article and maybe we can get him up to speed.CE Grim MDThanks for your reply. I am going to either call the doctor back and ask for a retest or go for a second opinion and ask for the test to be done right. The university hospital doctor already told me to let him be the doctor when I told him I was having kidney pain. He wanted me to tell him where my pain was and what type. So I am not too excited about telling him that I think my test was done wrong. I am even thinking about going to Mayo Clinic. Just wish it wouldn't be so far away. > >> > I have been dealing with sudden blood pressure spikes, etc. for over 4 years now. Recently I had a sudden spike of blood pressure 195/98 with sudden severe dizziness. I went to the ER and basically told it was anxiety. About 1 week later I picked up my medical records and learned that the CT scan (used to rule our a blot clot in my lungs) showed a 1.32 cm adenoma and that I also had blood in my urine. The ER doctor failed to tell me this. So I went to a university hospital endocrinologist thinking that I would get better care. The doctor suspected that I had a pheochromocytoma. That was ruled out with the plasma metanephrine test. After almost 2 weeks he has told me that all the blood tests that he took are normal. The aldosterone blood test from what I am reading is susposed to be done in a lying down position, done after fasting over night, & no ace inhibitor in your system. Well, I took lisinopril that morning, did not fast, & was sitting up when I took the test about 6 p.m. I am having off and on pain in the adrenal/kidney area & my kidneys seem to empty better at some times more than others. Does the aldosterone test have to be done under the conditions that I stated? The endocrinologist basically told me that I probably have anxiety problems. So I am back to the beginning now in trying to find out what is wrong with me. I am so ill most days that I am in bed a good part of the day & night. I need some advice, please!!> >>

Guest guest
Normal range doesn't mean much in PA. You can have Aldo in med range and renin at bottom end of normal. This would mean you have PA. > > > > > > > > > > I have been dealing with sudden blood pressure spikes, etc. for over 4 years now. Guest guest
He is just assuming since the blood tests that he took were all normal that the adenoma I have can not be releasing any hormones. I was willing to accept those results until I learned about the wrong procedures causing false negatives. I had the same test done 4 years ago lying down in the morning after a fast, but I was on bp medicines then too. It was normal. Guest guest
Val, Thanks for the information. I am just learning about AVS. Do most doctors do this procedure when there is an adenoma on the adrenal gland? Four years ago my testerone level was at the very highest level of normal. One year ago it was in the middle of the normal range. As far as my ovaries, an ultrasound about 1 year ago was normal. Guest guest
AVS is used for lateralization, i.e., which side adenoma is active. Guest guest
Called thinking about the problem and developing a testing plan.CE Grim MDAVS is used for lateralization, i.e., which side adenoma is active. I guessthere are easier tests to make sure whether one or both are active.Max.|Thanks for the information. I am just learning about AVS. Do |most doctors do this procedure when there is an adenoma on the |adrenal gland? Four years ago my testerone level was at the |very highest level of normal. One year ago it was in the |middle of the normal range. As far as my ovaries, an |ultrasound about 1 year ago was normal. ||Glenda|
Guest guest
The more I hear from all of you the more I want a second opinion (like Mayo Clinic). I don't think I have enough nerve to tell the doctor that had me tested that it was not done properly. And then if I do have to have further treatment, what kind of treatment would I get? > > > > The endocrinologist told me that it appears to be a non-functioning > adenoma. Guest guest
Sorry I came across so negative towards drugs. If it weren't for drugs my husband probably wouldn't be alive today. He had mantle cell lymphoma & then leukemia (caused by a chemo unfortunately), but after 2 stem cell transplants and many drugs he is cancer free and back at work. For me though, it seems that I am super sensitive to everything I take. Every blood pressure drug that I have taken has cause many problems. Guess I just haven't found the right one yet. And that is why I have in the past used herbs & supplements. I am just trying to get better. I had never met a doctor like you, Dr. Grim, that pushed DASH or had given me hope that my symptoms could be managed or cured. So,I am not anti-drug or anti-doctor and I am sorry I have caused an uproar. > > > |> > > > |> One reason that I am suspecting based on strange > > > |observations is that > > > |> PA patients are excellent category of guinea pig patients > > > |for drug companies to experiment their new drugs. Guest guest
Never think you cause an uproar. It is how we all learn. Always look at herbs as drugs. Some work as good or better then RX drugs. Some can kill you if you have unknown health problems. My mother was Bipolar So she had a social worker that came to see her. The social worker husband was A Dr had one of his patients that he was treating for high B/P no meds worked. He then asked the patient to list every thing they were eating and drinking. Found out they were drinking a herbal tea that was causing the high B/P. > > > > |> > > > > |> One reason that I am suspecting based on strange > > > > |observations is that > > > > |> PA patients are excellent category of guinea pig patients > > > > |for drug companies to experiment their new drugs.
