Guest guest
I am curious as to the answers to these questions as well... The second one especially becasue I too look so much younger than that of 31 years, I STILL have to show my id just to buy cigarettes (I know, I know, nasty habit!) That and mentally as well... My question is if you are not mature to your chronilogical age does it affect how old you look? Is age really related to state of mind? Is there a look to maturity? Very good questions Sondra...I think if I have time I will look through the scholorly journals on the online library for my college. Subject: 2 questions To: Autism_in_Girls Date: Monday, August 18, 2008, 2:09 PM I to have of some questions? does any to have of any research on mutism and autism in the sense of being of verbal and then having of unknown causes for the cyling of mutism? I to be fo curious as I to wonder if there isof any research or data out there to explain of this. I to be fo had of words to this in my therapy wondering on it but he did not give of me any words to maybe why my being has of a strong history of this off and on in the development of me. now most of these times were revolved around the traumas I to felt while in the mental health wards and places of that but not always. so not sure if they are of consistently why but was of wondering if any here has of this with their child of autism where their child has of speech and language but then something triggers their child to regress and be of non verbal for days, weeks, months before to come back with the words of things again as if not had of this spell at all? I to also wonder if there is of any strong biomedical correlations that one has of studies of on mutism and biomedical? that was of question one: the second question is: of does any one know if there is of any studies or science pointing to the common knowing of the face of those on the spectrum being much younger than their chronological ages? some theroy that it is of because we developmentally do not mature as our NT peers do and thus leaves us physcially looking younger. sondra
Guest guest
I thought the age thing was because using a narrower range of facial expressions means that we wrinkle less and stuff. Except I don't believe that because I have a rather wide range of facial expressions (albeit strange ones...my friends here read me fine now, but at first when i moved here they were always saying " what does THAT look mean? " ) and I am regularly mistaken for at least 10 years younger than I am. Interesting questions, I want to know too! Guest guest
Geez, I looked 18-19 at age 12, what I would give to be mistaken for that young! I dunno about the mental/appearance age. Allie is mistaken for much younger, but I think it's because she is so small, she fits in better physically with a first grader, she should be in fourth grade this year. I think about a boy in 6th grade, I would mistake him for older because of his height except he does have a very pure, young face, he has autism. I have read for some disorders like fetal alcohol syndrome and some genetic stuff, there are mild facial characteristics that do give them " angel " faces or very young looking faces. Maybe that's the case with some of our kids, they just have that mutation/injury that also impacts their faces. Maybe low muscle tone? I dunno, but very, very interesting.
