I'm sorry I lost track of who asked about low cortisol.. (I'd switched to

the list Digest because I couldn't manage the emails, then decided Digest

was even more of a pain :-))

Anyway, yes, I have my saliva test results that show that low cortisol is

very possible! Actually, it's the curve over the course of the day that's

important. I have morning cortisol too low and nighttime cortisol too high,

whereas cortisol should be higher in the morning to help you get up, and

lower at night so you can sleep.

When cortisol is chronically high for periods of time, the adrenals can

become exhausted and not put out enough cortisol in response to stress. Not

sure why in my case they seem to become active again at night, though. It

may be low blood sugar stimulating that, but why the exhausted adrenals are

suddenly able to rise to that occasion, I'm not sure.

licorice extract has to be prescribed? Sounds promising I might have to make an

appt with my Dr

prescribed licorice extract which really zapped my system in a very good way the

first 2 weeks. Then I got exposed to mold again and I think it helped me cope

better (hard to say with all the crying I did!).

I just wanted to add that licorice root is not advised if you have high blood

pressure, which I know many do from being toxic. D
