Guest guest
My doctor said the same thing about humans not having to drink milk. He has it isn't natural. I just smiled. We will still continue to drink our raw cow and goat milk. A family member disagrees with drinking milk. He says that we're not supposed to drink cow's milk. He said we're the only species that does this, and that the nutrition found in animal milk was made specifically for that animal.. and there's more protein and ect than we need or ever had in breast milk.. So he doesn't drink animal milk. (He grew up on it though).. He is now drinking almond milk, along with his wife and children. I told him that I used to drink soy milk .. until I found out that it's not good for you.. then I had store bought almond milk.. and had to change brands because some of them have this ingredient in it "carageenan" (I think it's spelled).. I still drink cow's milk.. but I wonder what your thoughts were of this? (the whole species and nutrition related aspect of this arguement).. any and all comments welcomed ! Guest guest
MILK only comes from animals. Soy, almond, rice, etc is not MILK-it is oil from that plant, etc. As a former cow dairy and now goat dairy farmer, I hate that plant 'extracts' are labeled as MILK. Your family member can compare for himself the protien, calcium, etc from his almond extract to cow/goat milk by checking it out on line. Our bodies have to have calcium to keep our bones healthy. Just because he is spouting a bunch of stuff doesn't make it true. Other species drink milk if it is presented to them-we are an advanced species & know how to get milk! My pyrs will drink milk if I give it to them & I even have, and have had, adult goats that will drink milk if I let them. Just cause someone spouts what sounds like intellegent mumbo jumbo doesn't make it accurate! If someone doesn't want to eat meat or drink milk-that is their choice. Just don't push it down my throat!Bonnie Robbins Tub Creek Farms Greensburg, IN -----Original Message-----From: RawDairy [mailto:RawDairy ]On Behalf Of eclecticparadiseSent: Saturday, April 02, 2011 8:13 PMTo: RawDairy Subject: Different Species I was wondering if someone can help me answer a question. Guest guest
I have two dogs that will get into milk whenever they think you are not looking. I catch them often! All of my chickens know where I keep the milk for the baby goats. They go there first thing in the mornings looking for it. My cats cry for it twice a day. The baby calf screams for it twice a day and it is Goat Milk. She doesn’t know the difference. When I had pigs, they would knock you over to get it and fight with each other over it. I have a 14 yr old goat that loves it and always has. So I’d have to disagree. Lots of other mammals love milk at ever age and stage J JessiLucky Hook DairyMoses Lake, WA
Guest guest
Thank you all for your input ! lol @ the dog/cat post !!!!! How could I have forgotten that !!!???? They do like it.. so it must be true that if they could get the milk themselves.. they would ! I had not intended to stop drinking real milk (not drinks labeled as " milk " ).. but I don't like being stumped with questions like he had.. I never would've blindly agreed with his " reasoning " .. I just needed a good and simple example/answer to his question. If people have been drinking milk for thousands of years.. and we're here today.. not an extinct race.. but as a thriving one.. then our ancestors must've been doing something right !!!!!! ~ > > I was wondering if someone can help me answer a question. Guest guest
I had an 1.5 year old bull that loved drinking raw milk and raw milk products. If I had extra milk, whey, buttermilk, I'd pour it into a bucket and call "Colby!" He'd come running and slurp the milk up like there was no tomorrow, and he was one of the healthiest calves I ever had. (Ironic that he had a cheese name, too.) We often feed our goat kids raw cows' milk, and they thrive on it. Our neighbour's orphaned alpaca was raised on raw goats' milk several years ago. Our pigs love drinking raw milk and milk products--sweet or sour--and grow very quickly with really tender meat. I can't set my milk pail down on the ground after milking and turn my back on it, or our guard goose will zip over as fast as she can and start drinking the milk. And don't forget that geese are never raised on milk by their parents! I am of the personal opinion that anything "God made" (i.e. milk from animals) is far healthier than anything "man made" (i.e. milk from plants; pasteurized milk). After all, God knows what he is doing, but far to often we make a mess of things since we can't see the bigger picture. Guest guest
Beautifully put ! Thank you ! I absolutely agree with the concept of nature made vs. man made.. I've had almond " milk " from time to time.. (store bought) and always have a very mild upset stomach.. Geese like milk as well ? lol I guess animals know more than we do.. otherwise it would be them with all of the stress and health problems instead of humans.. always tampering with things.. I wish it wasn't so difficult to get fresh items straight from the farm.. where I live (New York City).. our farmer's market doesn't stock raw milk.. just raw aged cheese.. it's a shame.. I've been drinking Sky Top Farm whole milk.. because they don't homogenize their organic milk.. Ronnybrook is good as well. I had been fortunate to have come in contact with raw milk.. for a few months.. and now it's almost impossible.. I loved how the milk lasted for weeks.. where as the store bought kind.. always went bad during the week it was opened.. the smell sometimes was a pretty strong putrid smell.. I always keep my fridge temp. steady... so I know it was the store bought milk that was a problem. It makes me so mad that our government is so interested in what we eat.. when it's fresh food.. instead of worrying about important matters.. not what tax payers want to eat. It's ridiculous.. especially when it's so healthy ! ~ > > I had an 1.5 year old bull that loved drinking raw milk and raw milk products. > If I had extra milk, whey, buttermilk, I'd pour it into a bucket and call > " Colby! Guest guest
My doctor said the same thing about humans not having to drink milk. He has it isn't natural. Eating cooked food isn't natural. Grinding stuff up and mixing it with water and yeast and letting it rise and baking it isn't natural. Peeling bananas probably isn't natural either. Living under a roof isn't natural. Wearing clothes isn't natural. Using tools isn't natural--although other species do it too. Caring about whether what you're doing is natural isn't natural. It cracks me up when environmentalist crazy people say that humans are the only species that makes war or kills others for sport or fashion or other such nonsense--meaning that we should model out behavior after that of animals. Aside from being manifestly untrue--lots of animals kill for sport--it's completely beside any possible point. Humans are probably the only species that *cares* about whether what we're doing is natural, and certainly the only species that cares about the environment. It is "unnatural" for us to do so. I think I'm working up to an argument that everything that actually makes us human is "unnatural". And so often it feels that way--we must choose between what we want and what we ought. Getting back to the actual topic of raw dairy, I think a lot of the argument that people shouldn't drink milk goes away when you factor the A1/A2 variation in. Maybe we're not supposed to drink A1 milk. But I think historically it has obviously been better for people to drink A1 milk than no milk--if it weren't, milk-drinking would not be such a common human custom. Also better for people to drink pasteurized milk than no milk, and maybe better to drink pasteurized milk than raw milk from careless or unhygienic dairies. But that doesn't mean it's better to drink pasteurized milk than raw milk. Think how lucky we are to have discovered this! Guest guest
What would be left for us if we as humans only ate or drank that which we could come across naturally? Does his store bought almond ‘milk’ come freely from the tiny little nuts? Or is it harvested, then processed to extract some oil that is then bottled and sold as milk? The same with soy. We eat lots of things because we like them; chocolate, coffee etc. Not easy to come by. Becky

Guest guest
I guess comparing species is irrelevant because each species is different.. although we do rely on each other (different species) for many things.. food.. comfort.. ect.. the best we can do is try to eat/drink healthy based on what we learn.. and how different groups have thrived.. and do what we can.. because that's all that we really can do. You'd think with our supposedly impressive " brain power " (as opposed to other species).. we'd be less confused.. and less likely to do things that hurt our health, and our environment (sorry .. not a full on environmentalist.. but there's a tiny little tree hugger in me !).. From what I read.. the benefits of drinking raw milk is greater than that any processed drink in your local supermarket. That's pretty amazing.. I guess we haven't come such a long way after all.. nature still has one up on us.. nutrition wise.. we'll never be able to duplicate anything (in my opinion) that's as good for us.. as what is already there.. What's better than nutrient dense food? ~ > > > > My doctor said the same thing about humans not having to drink milk. > > He has it isn't natural. > Eating cooked food isn't natural. Guest guest
I agree with idea that cow's milk is designed to nourish baby cows, and by that token is not an ideal food for baby humans, who's tummies are designed to digest human milk. But as adults, our tummies are designed to digest any food we come across. Certainly the protein in a steak is significantly higher than that of breastmilk, but my body can use it, and it is balanced out by the other things I eat. Few people are advocating a diet of only cow's milk. The fat content of nuts is not the same as breastmilk, yet I eat them and am healthy. It is faulty logic to compare breastmilk to cow's milk when considering a part of a healthy (and balanced with other foods) diet for a human past the weaning stage. As far as it not being good for us because it's not " designed for us " , this is also faulty logic. None of the food we eat is designed for us! The steak I mentioned - it was designed as a muscle to move an animal around - not for me to eat it! My lettuce wasn't designed for me to eat it! Seeds were kind of designed to be eaten, so that they might be excreted (intact) and left to grow somewhere new...which of course indicates that they weren't designed for eating/sustenance since they go through the digestive tract unharmed and with all their nutrients still intact and not in the " digester. " We take advantage of our food! None of it offers itself up to our plate. If you take a biblical view of it, then plants and animals ARE designed for us to eat, but that would still include milk. I think it also includes nut waters if you like them, but they are not nutritionally interchangeable with milk!
Guest guest
Thank you ! This information is definitely hard to argue with.. seems like common sense.. from what you wrote I try to be open minded.. view the pros and cons of foods, and ect.. so I don't understand how he could be so anti-milk when he obviously hadn't done a thorough job of looking into it before swearing off milk ! He is positive all milk causes cancer.. because of the growth hormones and ect in many store bought milk products.. Not all milk has that ! It depends on the farm practices.. ! ~ > > I agree with idea that cow's milk is designed to nourish baby cows, and by that token is not an ideal food for baby humans, who's tummies are designed to digest human milk. Guest guest
The argument is illogical. He says that because cow's milk was not made specifically for humans, one should not drink it--but almonds were not designed specifically for humans either. No single food was designed specifically for humans except human breast milk.
