Guest guest
As a parent of a child with ADHD as well as a husband and myself this article TITLE angers me. I read through the whole article and she states that 64% of kids on a special diet had decreased symptoms not that the ADHD went away. Those with ADHD have brains that process things differently as proven without a shadow of a doubt by brain scans. This type of information is what causes people to think that ADHD is made up & causes people that 'suffer' from it to think they are making up the way they behave. 64% to me is significantly closer to half of those studied rather then 'ADHD is mainly from food' which implies all. I do agree that food has an impact which is why I make the majority of our food & don't buy things w/ food colorings & preservatives. I've been doing this for many years & have been only buying organic for at least 7 yrs. We drink raw milk - hence this yahoo group. Unfortunately, this has not gotten rid of my family's ADHD & medication is still required in order to function in a society which has a lot of demands on life. My son is required to behave in school & do his work & my husband is required to be able to focus on his job in order to receive a paycheck for getting something accomplished. Without the medication, my son would struggle in school & likely be kicked out as well as my husband at work (which he did for many years of his life - only to be finally relieved by medication). I, fortunately, am not far on the spectrum of ADHD to require medication & I am thankful. I wish they didn't need it but am thankful it's available & I have great insurance that pays for it because it is very expensive. I hope everyone on this group respects my statement as it was intended. Guest guest
And many kids who are ADHD also have Irlen Syndrome. So many of the ADHD symptoms can be addressed by a proper diagnosis – frequently with no meds. Many kids who are ADHD (and a high % of those who are autistic) can be helped tremendously if they also have Irlen Syndrome and are diagnosed and receive the proper help.It is actually amazing to see a child who cannot read at all in the 2nd grade receive the proper diagnosis and read at grade level a year later with the highest grade in the class.Proper evaluations and diagnosis will usually result in a combination of many key ingredients (nutrition, visual processing, environmental, etc).Sheri
Guest guest
I'm going to go google Irlen syndrome after chores today but can you give me any good links as far as descriptions and techniques please? I used to work with kids using NLP/EFT and other techniques and most folks who are diagnosed ADD/ADHD dont actually have it but instead have severe candida, food reactions etc.... Real ADHD is an advanced brain function not a deficit - The person just needs to be able to control the advanced function and utilize it when appropriate and other functions when its not KWIM? I am excited to learn about another facet of these syndromes and ways to mangage them. aliza > > And many kids who are ADHD also have Irlen Syndrome. > > So many of the ADHD symptoms can be addressed by a proper diagnosis - > frequently with no meds. > > Many kids who are ADHD (and a high % of those who are autistic) can be > helped tremendously if they also have Irlen Syndrome and are diagnosed and > receive the proper help. > > It is actually amazing to see a child who cannot read at all in the 2nd > grade receive the proper diagnosis and read at grade level a year later with > the highest grade in the class. > > Proper evaluations and diagnosis will usually result in a combination of > many key ingredients (nutrition, visual processing, environmental, etc). > > Sheri >

Guest guest
I had never heard of this & appreciate learning new information but my family does not have any of the symptoms associated w/ this syndrome. My son, specifically, reads at a 12th grade level & tests at 99 percent for reading and math on the district administered testing. He behaves the same regardless of location so flourescents is not the problem. He has also been tested for Aspergers and we were told he does not have that so we've looked into that as well. We are lucky because we have a leading autism center in our area. He has ADHD & will likely be on medication the rest of his life due to the severity of his symptoms. P.S. ADHD meds don't work on people that don't need them - for people that don't have ADHD the meds cause you to be hyper (hence teenagers love of them) for people w/ ADHD it causes you to be calm & focus. > > And many kids who are ADHD also have Irlen Syndrome. > > Sheri >
