FROM PREVIOUS CONTRIBUTORS:Strange #1. Had a lady at a petting zoo look under the feathers of a silkie hen I was holding and ask where her (I presume) udder was. She said she was looking to see where the milk came from to feed the chicks. Yup. Not makin' this up. :o)

Yep, folks today don't know where their food comes from.

Strange # 2. Standing in the meat department of the grocery store I heard some strange talk. I asked the folks what they'll do if the stores

no longer have food. I couldn't believe what they said!! They were looking at the chicken and said that there's plenty in the back of the store. Guess they think chickens are hatched in plastic and styrofoam!

My Contribution. Strange #3. After I saw Diane Sawyer attack a freshman Congressman from Kansas because her family had received farm subsidies, I did a little research. Yes the Congress woman's Family farm had received nearly $750,000 over a 10 year period. About half of that was direct subsidies when corn and wheat were priced below production costs, early in the 21st century. (While I do not care for direct subsidies, it is the law of the land and the farm was eligible.) The other half of the monies they had received was for "Environmental programs" in which the farm had participated that were "FEDERALLY MANDATED" if the farm was going to participate in the programs. AND the farm received a 1099 for all those monies, ie every dollar they received was considered taxable income, in the year they received it, less any deductions or expenses. Many of those conservation practices have 10 year lifespan and must be maintained

by the farmer for the life of the practice. And most carry only 50-75% government participation. SO to install a $100 conservation practice, you need $25 of profit from somewhere else, to received $75 in assistance and you have to maintain that practice for 10 years at you own expense. And you have spent the $100, it is not sitting around in a bank account. This caused me to do a little more research. According to the Congressional Budget Office, (CBO) the total federal Ag budget is 0.7 of 1% of the total federal budget. That is seven tenths of one percent. OF that 60% goes to food programs, School lunches, WIC, food stamps, Butter and cheese give away, etc. There are 117 federal food programs, including everything from peanut butter to maple syrup. of the remainder, 20% goes to direct subsidies of programs, including Wool, (because it was a "Strategic" Commodity), Honey and the biggest one that makes me mad, sugar, costing every man, woman

and child in America about $85 each year, because the domestic sugar producers are "protected from cheap foreign imports", making the 5 families who control sugar production in the US among the richest in the US, including the Mormon church, but that is another rant. The remaining 20% of the 0.7% is for environmental and conservation issues. Nuff said.Bill
