Guest guest
Jen, whats the name of your pediatrician in Round Rock. Do they do the alternate vaccine schedule? One of my parents is moving there and looking for a good pediatrician to continue her care. They SHOULD know the law-that doesn't mean they will but someone will be able to find something they can at least read off to you regarding this.I would also file a complaint since they gave your child the incorrect vaccine-that's just negligence! Get a second copy of his chart ASAP since if they feel there is an issue, that little blip may be "lost" later on down the line and may not match the ones they sent you. Go get it at the office in person and have the person who copies it sign the copy.Sorry about your pedi.Jen From: <barnum6hotmail>Subject: Informed consent for vaccinesTo: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Date: Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 3:31 PM I think we may have hit the last straw with our ped's office re:vaccines. A lot of back story that I won't bore you with. But, I took 12yo ds to the dr. last month to get the meningitis vaccine that is now required. The office gave him the wrong shot. He got the HepA shot which is not required for his age group. The nurse seemed confused about which vaccine we were even there for. She said he didn't need anything. I clarified that he needed the meningitis shot, she looked everything over again and agreed. Came back in the room and gave it to him. I didn't discover this until today when I received a copy of his records. Every dr we've ever gone to has always given me the vaccine handout and then had me sign on the official vaccine record after the shot was given. I realized that this ped had not done this in years. After discovering this mix up, I've been trying to find out the laws. I know it is a federal law that I must receive the VIS. So, they are out of compliance on that. There is no federal law requiring a parent signature, but read that a state could require it. I'm finding mixed information for TX. If either of these things had been done, we would have caught this before he was given the wrong vaccine. The office staff is really trying to downplay this as no big deal. I was told that the cdc recommends the HepA for all children, so it's ok. Not "ok" for me, though since it is not a requirement for his age. Grrr..Thanks!------------------------------------Texas Autism Advocacywww.TexasAutismAdvocacy.orgTexas Disability Network Calendar of Eventswww.TexasAutismAdvocacy.org
