Belinda,It goes much faster than what you think. And SO worth every minute. I bet it is a relief just to have the appt set. Terrified and anxious are both feelings we have all felt. Once that first cast is applied it gets easier. I am thinking about you guys this morning and saying a prayer. Keep us posted.TashaMommy of twin boys- and 3 years oldFort Worth, Texas is currently in a brace-8 degrees out of brace!!Murrays wrote: We have finally made a decision to go to The Childrens Hospital with Dr. kson in Denver. I am so glad you finally have an appointment. I know the fears

are a little overwhelming, but you will be amazed at how they become

part of the normal routine. Dr kson is a great doctor and always

has addressed our fears and concerns. Devyn always did great and each

cast got a little easier. I always made sure they knew what things

helped and they always tried to make things go smoothly. I also would

talk to the anesthesiologist and let them know that Devyn did better

waking on his own and he did better if they brought us back to the

recovery room before he woke instead of after. After the casting when

they took us back to the presurgery room we always asked for a

popsicle and for them to bring us one of his favorite movies. This

always seemed to calm him down faster and take his mind of the cast.

The first cast is the hardest and Devyn was pretty mad until he

realized the cast wasn't going anywhere.I know June seems so far away

but it will be here before you know it. How long will you guys be in

denver? Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Dear

Belinda,

ISOP is located in Denver, so let Rochelle or I

know if you need anything. June 13th may not be a good time for you to

meet any one from the group, but if you need support we are here. The

hospital is about 5 minutes away from my office. I’ll mark this date on

my calendar, just in case. Can you remind again of where you are located?

And, are they recommending you and Toby stay overnight? The reason I ask

is that some families decide to stay an extra day, just to be sure that the plaster

jacket/cast is fitting well, trimmed properly, etc….Before they go all

the way home.

We are in Kansas. They told us that the casting procedure is outpatient and that Toby would be discharged once he is passing fluids and keeping them down. Bruce and I have decided that we would still stay the night in Denver to make sure everything is okay w/ his cast before coming home......

There is also a brand new Mcdonald house on the Campus of

the hospital. I know they offer reduced rates it maybe worth checking

into. I'm sure the hospital would have all the info. Like

said let us know if you need anything while you are here.
