Guest guest Posted November 14, 2003 Report Share Posted November 14, 2003 By myself and others the need to eat a protein-rich snack immediately after or within a half hour of a workout in order to maximized immediate muscle deposition has been mentioned several times on this list. I've read a couple articles recently on a rigorously controlled study that took place a few months ago that tested several groups by the crossover method (each group was tested both before and after workout) for different kinds of meals either a) within one hour before workout or b)immediately after workout. They found eating protein within 1 hour BEFORE the workout to be 2.5 times more effective at producing immediate muscle protein deposition than eating immediately afterward. Is protein one of the things that gets digested quickly, while still in the stomach? I forget, but even if so, it might not be immediately available. what do you eat in the way of protein for workouts? Reason being that in the presence of adrenalin and other such hormones produced under physical stress stomach hcl is minimized and as such would severely hamper pre during and post excercise protein metabolism.
