Rita, I never had the opportunity to use anything long-term because Noelle always gets her new cast the day after they cut off the old one, but she was very itchy and dry. I bathed her in an Aveeno bath, which helped a lot and then slathered on lots of Aquaphor..... That seemed to soothe her. Good luck! one goes on Wednesday, 6/18. She has a rough dry area which is the side where the curve is, I guess it's from the rubbing or pressure of the inside part of the cast. Thanks.Rita

If you try a cream you've never used before, don't do as I did and slather it all over the kid! I did that with poor Todd--rubbed the calendula cream that came in the cast care bag all over his back when he was itching like crazy, and it made his skin turn bright red and even itchier! I know calendula works great for lots of people, but I'd suggest trying anything new on just a small area first. We've been using Aquaphor ointment, which works great for us, and an organic olive oil soap in the bath. Aveeno bath helps when he's really, really itchy.

Our doc suggests not putting a lot of ointment on the calloused/rough areas, though, since these areas will do better over time if they stay tough.

Good luck!

We had the exact same experience with Calendula as Todd. We put it

on the night before his casting and he complained so much about

being itchy in that cast; never complained in previous or later

casts.

Love the Aquaphor for dry & itchy.

Aquaphor is the best-

Dr.

Mehta recommends Calendula Cream for skin healing. It can be found at a

homeopathy store or a CAST Supply Bag.

Dry

patches after cast removal

Is there a cream or

lotion that can be applied between casts to help

with dry skin patches? We just took Kate's cast off today and the new

one goes on Wednesday, 6/18. She has a rough dry area which is the side

where the curve is, I guess it's from the rubbing or pressure of the

inside part of the cast. Thanks.
