Guest guest
>I would think the dandelion would also help my low iron. . .right? ==>Hi Sheryl,I am slightly anemic. After years of being a vegetarian my body is not very good at absorbing iron. A year of eating meat has not made much difference though I am about to start having raw liver every day. Yesterday I saw an ND who told me to take Barley Green. >I wondered about the liver thing. When I first started getting this horrible heartburn, I told the doctor my bowel movements were very light in color. He said not to worry because they come in all colors. Instead of going with my gut (no pun intended), I listened to him and didn't think about it much, until now. I recently added in spinach to my diet and my BM's have darkened. Which I think is very positive. ==>Light BMs can also mean the bile isn't flowing very well - ie. a sluggish liver. Are you getting enough fat in your diet? Guest guest
>I probably am not getting enough fat in my diet. . . .I have such bad heartburn I stay away from most fats. I use some olive oil occasionally, but other than that very little. ==> I see. So are you eating meat? I have no idea about heart burn but I hope the others can help you here. Sheryl, heartburn is an indication of gastric irritation with possible ulcer and/or H.pylori infection. This often results from long term hypochlorhydria and pancreatic insufficiency, which leads to chronic irritation of the gastric lining. Hypochlorhydria is a deficiency of hydrochloric acid (HCl). But before introducing HCl as a supplement it is very often necessary to heal the gastrointestinal system. Again the inability to digest fat means there is a need for biles salts and liver issues. In Nourishing Traditons there are recipes for stocks which are extremely beneficial in providing nutrition and healing the gut at the same time. The stocks provide plenty of nutrition without a lot of stress on the body. The longer the stock is cooked, the more nutrient rich. Digestion (severe gut pain, flatulence) has been an issue I worked with for quite a while. I have finally turned the corner. From what I've learned, I can say most of my problem began with lack of HCl to begin the digestion process and then one thing lead to another. Taking digestive enzymes (which I did for years) without working on the HCl issue is a vicious cycle. Janice

You say you've turned a corner. What did you do to get there? I'm interested in what you say about digestive enzymes with addressing the HCl issue. I was about to order digestive enzymes but I've suspected for a while I had low stomach acidity and have confirmed that this morning with the bicarb test. So, where to from here? Just take HCl with meals? On the bottle it says take one with each meal. I've read that you can take tablets with the meal up to the point that you feel burning in your stomach and then the next time, take one less than that. ie. so if 4 makes your stomach burn, next time take 3. What do you think of that? I also read the HCl supplements should contain pepsin. TIA, Filippa
