Guest guest
Correlation is not causation. For example there is a correlation between the number of telephone poles and lung cancer since 1940 or so. Guest guest
Not that my doctors ever mentioned it to me, but looking over my most recent CT scan, I'm said to have " 6mm nonobstructive right lower pole renal calculus. Guest guest
kidney stones are so incredibly common with or without pain. They only cause an issue when too big or get caught up. Most who likely have them never know. Those that do often just had a CT or MRI and it was an incidental finding but they never had akidney stone attack. Many many stones are also seen in the bladder, those often on regular xrays. >I am also sure there is a correlation between PA and kidney stones. Guest guest
The doctors don't seem too worried about it. Nor do they seem too worried about the 33mm hemangioma in my liver. Or for that matter, the 1cm nodule in my left adrenal (that doesn't seem to be doing anything, as my AVS showed that my right is overproducing aldo). Apparently we've all got stuff like this in our bodies that we only find out about when we get a CT scan. I'm not sure that I buy the " it's nothing to worry about " argument, but until any of these things start causing pain or problems I don't think there's much I can do. - msmith1928 45, nulliparous female, 5'3 " , 120 lbs, 1cm left adrenal nodule, supine aldosterone 28.5/renin 0.2, potassium <2.9 (when not taking supplements); 25mg spiro caused gynecomastia; no HTN meds; current meds are 20MEQ K 3x/day, singulair 10mg, norethindrone .35mg, cyclobenzaprine 5-10mg when needed, fexofenadine 180mg when needed; low sodium, fructose- and grain-free diet due to HEREDITARY FRUCTOSE INTOLERANCE; known drug allergies include PCN, sulfa, tetracycline > > > > > > I am also sure there is a correlation between PA and kidney stones. I can't do a high K diet due to HEREDITARY FRUCTOSE INTOLERANCE. The restricted sodium diet is manageable, but it certainly makes things difficult. Guest guest
My aldo post-ACTH on the left was higher than normal too - 57 (lab normal <31; right was 1560) so one doctor seems to think it's bilateral. The other doctor doesn't think it's PA at all, but doesn't seem to care what it is as long as there's a pill for it. Unless I get another opinion that convinces me it's bilateral, my next step is going to be exactly that - to be persistent and get it done again. > >> > > > > > >> > > > > I am also sure there is a correlation between PA and kidney stones. Guest guest
Dr Grim, I can't tell if you're responding to me or another poster. I'm assuming you're saying the stone is the most likely cause of blood in urine. They haven't done any studies at all, I've had this for at least 10 years and they always ask if I have a UTI. I always respond that NEVER to my knowledge have I had one. They always respond with " well we should give you an antibiotic just to be safe " which I always refuse because antibiotics and I don't get along well at all. -msmith1928 45, nulliparous female, 5'3 " , 120 lbs, 1cm left adrenal nodule, supine aldosterone 28.5/renin 0.2, potassium <2.9 (when not taking supplements); 25mg spiro caused gynecomastia; no HTN meds; current meds are 20MEQ K 3x/day, singulair 10mg, norethindrone .35mg, cyclobenzaprine 5-10mg when needed, fexofenadine 180mg when needed; low sodium, fructose- and grain-free diet due to HEREDITARY FRUCTOSE INTOLERANCE; known drug allergies include PCN, sulfa, tetracycline > > > > > > > > I am also sure there is a correlation between PA and kidney stones. Guest guest
50 50 chance I would say. Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension Yes, I agree that correlation is not causation. But it might be that both are caused by the same reason. For example, two much sodium in food and too little calcium/magnezium/potassium? Also, what be interesting to consider if both adenoma and stones appear in the same kidney/adrenal. In my case, both of them are located on left side. CE Grim MD Specializing in Difficult Hypertension I am also sure there is a correlation between PA and kidney stones. They appeared simultaneously in my case too. And most recently another one when I was weaned off the Inspra for diagnostic purposes The Inspra does not help with my BP but it does maintain my potassium. so in the year I had two stones I was on potassium 40meq and currently I am on 60 meq but after the stone I took it down to 40meq. Guest guest
Could be or could not be. What we need to know is how many with PA HAVE kidney stones and so they get better with Rx. I would say we would need several thousand. Not in my lifetime. Guest guest
Since you never posted any of your labs. If you would not mind can you tell us how your PA was DX. Did they test aldo and renin? What meds were you on at the time tested? > > > > > > > > > > I am also sure there is a correlation between PA and kidney stones.
