Guest guest
Consider hiring me as a one on one consultant to work with you and your team directly. Will likely save trip to Mayo's.But will need complete story and all labs in the past.CE Grim MDI just had some more tests done and I have some questions. I have an adrenal adenoma & thyroid nodules. Now wondering if there is a pituitary tumor that has not been checked out. This time I fasted overnight, but was still on lisinopril (ACE inhibitor). The doctor I saw said that the medicine wouldn't change the tests results (I have read differently though). I was on a low salt diet also. Here are some of my results: glucose 110 (70-99) first time ever having high glucosesodium 142 (135-145)creatine .79 (.50-1.2)potassium 4.4 (3.4-5.3)BUN 19 (7-21)calcium 9.9 (8.5-10.5)aldosterone 4.3 (less than 21)renin 2.8 (2.9-10.8) sodium deplete(less than or = 0.6-3.0) with sodiumACTH 25 (10-60 a.m draw)Cortisol 13.6 no normal range given(random)growth horm. 0.07 (.01-3.61)Igf-1 196 (84-233)TSH 2.09 (.27-4.2)free thyroxine 1.23 (.93-1.7)In the last few months blood is showing up in my urine tests. It was at 10 & 4 Rbc (0-3). Do people with hyperaldosteronism generally have blood in their urine or is this probably unrelated? My primary doctor believes that I have adrenal exhaustion & I need to go to a place like MAYO, but the endocrinologist (who has seen me once after spending the entire night at the emergency room & given morphine for a migraine) believes that I need psychological evaluation or CPAP titration. Every morning about 10 a.m I suddenly get a headache, dizziness, higher blood pressure (sometimes), anxiety, nausea, etc. Three times in the last 2 weeks I felt like I was losing consciousness and was extremely weak. These episodes are not like panic attacks that I have had where my heart rate would go up a lot. These are a feeling of total exhaustion sometimes with shortness of breath, heart pain, visual problems, sudden excessive urine output, etc. Anyone has any suggestions or advice?? Guest guest
Dr. Grim, I did go to the same offices as Dr. Bakris, but had a very young doctor. Sometimes when doctors tell you that your problem could be psychological you question yourself until the next crisis happens and again you are reminded of how ill you are. Does it sound like I should continue trying to get a diagnosis? I think that I would consider using you as a consultant. Are you talking about helping my primary care doctor with ordering & evaluating the correct tests? Do most doctors agree to this? How much is your fee? > > > I just had some more tests done and I have some questions. I have an > > adrenal adenoma & thyroid nodules. Guest guest
Hi I don't know much but I can tell you that for knowing what's up with you you need to have your aldo/renine done with sodium in urine, also you need to write what drugs are you on ( or write that you are only on lisoprinosil ) Based on those tests without knowing the value of NA and K in urine, just by the ARR you do not have PA, nor a hormonal induced Hypertension, ( however no idea what's your history ) the leves of ACTH are high and one would look at prolactine and other things to see what's up, not much to say without proper medical history/other labs etc Only thing " weird " we know for sure about that lab is that you show one of the factors for metabolic syndrome ( fasting glucose > 110 ) TTFN > > > I just had some more tests done and I have some questions. Guest guest
From emedicinehealth What are the causes of blood in urine? The causes of gross and microscopic hematuria are similar and may result from bleeding anywhere along the urinary tract. One cannot readily distinguish between blood originating in the kidneys, ureters (the tubes that transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder), bladder, or urethra. Any degree of blood in the urine should be fully evaluated by a physician, even if it resolves spontaneously. Infection of the urine, stemming either from the kidneys or bladder, is a common cause of microscopic hematuria. Kidney and bladder stones can cause irritation and abrasion of the urinary tract, leading to microscopic or gross hematuria. Trauma affecting any of the components of the urinary tract or the prostate can lead to bloody urine. Hematuria can also be associated with renal (or kidney) disease, as well as hematologic disorders involving the body's clotting system. Medications that increase the risk of bleeding, such as aspirin, warfarin (Coumadin), or clopidogrel (Plavix), may also lead to bloody urine. Lastly, cancer anywhere along the urinary tract can present with hematuria. > > > > > I just had some more tests done and I have some questions. I have an > > > adrenal adenoma & thyroid nodules. Guest guest
No white blood cells in the urine. I do have a 5 mm kidney stone that has been there for over 4 years, but it is non obstructing. Lately I have been having off and on pain in the kidney area. The kidney stone is probably the reason, but I thought I'd ask if it could have anything to do with hyperaldosteronism. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I just had some more tests done and I have some questions. Guest guest
I have had about 3 urine tests since April, one was early morning and fasting but not mid stream, one was afternoon, not mid stream, & the last was afternoon clean catch mid stream. Guest guest
What causes kidney stones? Doctors do not always know what causes a stone to form. While certain foods may promote stone formation in people who are susceptible, scientists do not believe that eating any specific food causes stones to form in people who are not susceptible. A person with a family history of kidney stones may be more likely to develop stones. Urinary tract infections, kidney disorders such as cystic kidney diseases, and certain metabolic disorders such as hyperparathyroidism are also linked to stone formation. In addition, more than 70 percent of people with a rare hereditary disease called renal tubular acidosis develop kidney stones. Cystinuria and hyperoxaluria are two other rare, inherited metabolic disorders that often cause kidney stones. In cystinuria, too much of the amino acid cystine, which does not dissolve in urine, is voided, leading to the formation of stones made of cystine. In patients with hyperoxaluria, the body produces too much oxalate, a salt. When the urine contains more oxalate than can be dissolved, the crystals settle out and form stones. Hypercalciuria is inherited, and it may be the cause of stones in more than half of patients. Calcium is absorbed from food in excess and is lost into the urine. This high level of calcium in the urine causes crystals of calcium oxalate or calcium phosphate to form in the kidneys or elsewhere in the urinary tract. Other causes of kidney stones are hyperuricosuria, which is a disorder of uric acid metabolism; gout; excess intake of vitamin D; urinary tract infections; and blockage of the urinary tract. Certain diuretics, commonly called water pills, and calcium-based antacids may increase the risk of forming kidney stones by increasing the amount of calcium in the urine. Calcium oxalate stones may also form in people who have chronic inflammation of the bowel or who have had an intestinal bypass operation, or ostomy surgery. As mentioned earlier, struvite stones can form in people who have had a urinary tract infection. People who take the protease inhibitor indinavir, a medicine used to treat HIV infection, may also be at increased risk of developing kidney stones. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I just had some more tests done and I have some questions. Guest guest
I was being told that high serum salt is the underyling cause of kidney stones as well, so the nephrologist wants me to DASH.
