Guest guest
Sara, apparently the anaesthesia can "reset" the brain and body (in children) so that the body thinks it's had a full nights sleep! that happened to the first time he had a general anaesthesia, he then did not sleep that night but he sure was happy when he woke up. Glad they didn't find anything. That's good news, isn't it? Darla xx We’ve just come back from Tom’s endoscopy. I don’t think he does an intestinal permeability test. He doesn’t do the scoping so we didn’t see him yesterday and so I didn’t have any discussion about constipation and yeast. Doctor Fell was careful to tell us that there was no link between autism and gut disorders. He seems nervous that so many patients with autism from all over the country are coming to see him. he looks at their gastro problems and ignores the autism and investigates/ treats accordingly. I don’t think he has any views that are different from mainstream except that he is helping our kids. I was very nervous about Tom having a general anaesthetic and sort of expected a really bad reaction but Tom seemed to wake up from the anaesthetic tons better!!!! That was yesterday and today he is the best he’s ever been. What could that be? Pain relief? Oxygen? They didn’t see anything at all down there by the way, SARA
Guest guest
Glad you are all pleased with Dr Fell, he sounds good. Can I ask though why everyone is going to him? Completely out of the loop I know, but what is he offering any more than other NHS people. TIA Vicky

Guest guest
Thanks, Darla. Blimey, I suppose he did have a really good kip! The trouble with that explanation is that it means it’s temporary L Don’t think any hospital will scope a child daily!!! I think it is good that they didn’t find anything although they don’t scope between the stomach and the bit before the rectum (I’m v. scientific) so there could be something going on in there. Normally I’d want them to find something because I want to know what’s wrong with him but as he’s doing so well on VSL at the moment, I suppose we can concentrate on that. -----Original Message----- From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of rexel45@... Guest guest
--- Could it be that if he was fasting before the scope, and the lack of food caused an improvement? I only ask as my daughter Jasmine is tube fed an elemental feed. When we try oral foods ALL foods except chicken cause her to regress. We are currently doing SCD, but she has started to react to ripened bananas, so its back to Stage 1 foods (again!). Guest guest
That’s interesting. It is now more than 24 hours since he had the endoscopy and he’s going from strength to strength. Guest guest
Thanks for this, . Did they find reflux by looking at biopsies? Are you able to explain how that happens to a dunce like me? How did they know the inflammation was previously in the lower gut and now in the upper gut? How did he treat the inflammation and the reflux? Were the treatments successful? No, we have to wait two weeks for the results of the biopsies -----Original Message----- From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of Scorer Sent: 07 March 2008 19:01 To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Subject: Re: Dr Fell Hi Sara, " They didn't see anything at all down there by the way.... Guest guest
Hi Rabab, For how many days did the improved behaviour last? Tom is so great and very happy – I would hate to lose him again. This is the 3rd day after the scope (excluding the day of the scope) -----Original Message----- From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of Rabab Abedi Sent: 08 March 2008 00:16 To: autism-biomedical-europe Subject: RE: Dr Fell Hi Our daughter was scoped (endoscopy and colonoscopy) last week by Dr Fell. We have found him to be very sympathetic to Sofia's health issues and very willing to listen and take note of our concerns about her yeast etc. He did not find anything during the scope or in the biopsies. He said that when that happens and the child is often getting loaded, he would usually conclude that it is a problem with bowel motility or irritable bowel syndrome. He was not very keen on testing gut permeability as he said it was no reliable test for this. I also found that Sofia's behaviour imporved a lot on the days following the scope. She reacted to the biopsy to develop a very high fever (apparently that happens sometimes when the bacteria in the gut is disturbed) and during this time she was more alert and responsive than she has been since she first regressed into autism. I think the improvement in behaviour was due to the fasting beforehand and it has made me seriously consider trying an elimination diet for her as I think something in the current GFCF diet does not suit her. Guest guest
Although he is trying not to notice the autism, Dr Fell sounds as if he is noticing this wandering gut inflammation and it is surprising him. Let's hope he has deep and intelligent thoughts about it and relates it to the autism (but without saying so, of course). xx Sally
