------, I certainly don't profess to have all the answers when it comes to

acne, but having struggled a few years ago with moderate acne, I do have

some ideas to offer. (My skin is mostly clear now). I also have a lot of

compassion for your situation. I felt like I was wearing my weakness and

vulnerability on face when my skin was bad. I actually broke down in the

dermatologist's office and begged for an Accutane prescription (apparently

they don't consider abstinence enough birth control, LOL! And I refused to go

on birth control pills or antibiotics...)

This is what I did back then (pre NT) which worked really well. I don't

necessarily recommend this. The Dr. prescribed tazorac (a retinoid) which

she said was the closest thing to taking accutane in a topical form. It worked

so much better for me than Retin-A ever did. I also went in every 2 weeks for

a professional extraction and acid peel. I've gotten to thinking, however... if

acne is cured by synthetic vit. A, it's most likely caused in part by a vit. A

deficiency! So simple, it annoys me the doctors don't see it. And natural vit.

A in food isn't dangerous, like synthetic vit. A. Incidentally, a year and a

half

ago I came down with an eye disease... hmmm. Vit. A again! I started eating

liver, and my eye doctor actually warned me off it in case I consumed too

much vit. A! (I do wonder if the tazorac actually contributed to the eye

disease...) You're diet sounds pretty good, but not necessarily high in vit. A.

I

would recommend organ meats and x-factor butter oil from Radiant Life. You

may have difficulty absorbing vit. A, and need lots in your diet. I would also

try the Japanese fish soup from NT. Fish heads are great for balancing

hormones, in my opionion.

On the topical side: There's a new book out called The Acne Cure. I didn't

buy it, I just read it at Borders. But all the info is on the website anyway.

I

won't get into all the details here, but I've tried it when detoxing has caused

my skin to break out a little, and it nips it in the bud. It's so simple, and

makes

a lot of sense. I would definitely check it out if I were you, as the author

claims it can completely heal acne (even severe acne) in several weeks (and

no, he isn't selling ANY products!) Especially since the only drugs it involves

are OTC topical ones you can get in the drugstore, it's worth a try. In

combination with getting enough vit. A and a great diet, I think it could really

help.

I hope this info saves you from going the more serious drug route that I did!

You might have an IgA/IgG allergy.

I've seen a LOT of folks lose their acne

when the stop eating gluten (Even trace amounts). Our

family stopped getting it totally, and I had rosacea for

20 years. Milk, dairy, eggs, and yeast can also be culprits for some folks --

to test for all, go on a meat/vegie/fruit diet for a couple

of weeks and see what happens (i.e. " go paleo " ).

Rice is usually ok, but it can be contaminated with wheat,

ditto for corn, so eliminating all grains is a good way

to test. It doesn't matter, in terms of allergies, if the

grains are whole or processed, they can still give you acne.

, you could try some liver flushing. Some people report that liver

flushing has helped their acne. It also helps regulate hormones because it

improves your liver function. Check out the liver flush forum at curezone.com

The other thing that comes to mind is a bowel cleanse such as the Arise and

Shine program. Just be wary that many of the curezone people are into vegan raw

foods.

I had the same problem with my eczema, which by your description was about 20

times worse than your acne! lol! Anyway I went on an anti-candida diet, and

I didn't see major changes. (along with some major doses of certain

anti-fungals).

But if you are starting to see changes you might want to consider that you do

have the infection the diet is treating. What percentage would you say it's

gotten better? I don't know what scientific basis this has, but folks in

naturopathy say ( " someone's law " (?) ) it takes about 1 month to heal for every

year with the problem. So if You've had the acne for 5 years, it should take 5

months of treatment to heal, in which case you should see 40% improvement in

two months. If you've been doing the treatment two months and have only seen 5

or 10% improvement that might be a sign whatever help its doing is

coincidental and you are not following your optimal treatment plan.

I also can sympathize with you as I've struggled with acne for years.

As I've adjusted my diet over the past couple of years it has

gradually improved and I'm now completely acne-free. These are the

things I've changed in my diet/practice that I think have helped. I

didn't really do them initially for acne, but it was a great side

benefit:

1. Stopped eating all sugar completely. This is when I first noticed a

big change in my skin. The acne got less but didn't go away

completely.

2. Progesterone cream. This has done wonders to balance out my

hormones, and it seems one of the benefits was further clearing up my

skin.

3. Cod liver oil. I also noticed a significant improvement when I

started taking CLO, and after taking it for about six months I noticed

my acne had completely disappeared.

4. Kombucha tea. Since starting to drink KT about two months ago, I've

noticed additional improvement in my skin -- it's softer and smoother,

and some of my scarring is beginning to lessen.

I should also mention that I've stopped eating gluten products in the

last couple months. I hadn't thought of that as possibly affecting my

skin until Heidi mentioned it. But it could be a factor also.

The problem in making several changes in diet and then seeing an

improvement is that it's then difficult to know which was actually the

benefactor. But I often think that it's possibly a bit of all of them,

as in improvement in health overall certainly has benefits that we

don't always anticipate.

The above factors addressed several issues related to acne: hormonal

balance, increase in Vit. A in the CLO, and the liver cleansing of the

Kombucha.

Anyway, hope you find something helpful and that you soon find what is

the solution for your body.

Thank you all for your replies...

it gives me comfort. You know, I have been on the anti-fungal diet

for 30 days about 2 months ago...that involved eating nothing else

but veggies, some specific fruits, cheese, nuts and meats. That was

kind of boring...I am ot sure I had a fungal infection because my

acne did not go away...it had got better but not totally gone. I

think I am at the point i am willing to do anything though. I

believe I have some sort of infection...I know people who have a

perfect skin and they do not eat 10% well of what I eat. I really

watch my diet. Really. I am not going to lie, my skin is not that

bad...it's easily hidden by make up but I hate putting on make up.

It's not awful, but it's really bothering me, especially on my upper

chest.

I think maybe I need to really cleanse my digestive tract....

If candida is involved, eating aged cheeses would be off-limits. I

think Bee posted some candida info with links a month or so ago, so

you could look for it in the archives. You might want to look and

see if any of these great foods are actually the culprits. I take

probiotics every day and my dh started to take them about a month

ago. His rosacea seems to be improving a bit and his skin looks

clearer and more evenly colored.

I agree with Heidi's note about a possible gluten intolerance. I'm

certain this is the reason for my dh's rosacea problem, but he is a

pizza/bread/cereal addict (especially pizza) and seems quite content

to live with the digestive and skin issues.

Have you had any hormone tests done to see if there is a real

hormonal issue?
