Guest guest
Thank you for sharing that! I am glad Noah is doing so well. Salt Lake is top notch for sure. My son, Noah, was casted for 9 months by Dr. D'Astous and we had no issues. There are a lot of posts on this board that speak to problems and concerns. Don't get me wrong - there certainly should be since that is what we are all here for - to find help with our problems and concerns. However, you rarely get to hear from the people who have had no troubles. If you're not having troubles...you find less reason to post. That just makes since. Noah never had to have his cast trimmed while awake, never had any difficulties with nausea after anesthesia, never had any skin issues/breakdown, never had to have a cast cut off early due to soiled diapers, never needed a new car seat, etc. I'm not trying to say that casting is easy, but it is in fact easier for some than others. Beginning the casting process can seem daunting. Guest guest
That is so comforting to know. We are going to a consult w/ our dr Wednesday. I don't know that I feel real comfortable w/ him and the casting. I don't know that he does the Mehta casting and if he doesn't then the next closest place to us is St. Louis but I've heard they aren't up to par. So that leaves us w/ Denver. Do I contact them both and try to send them Toby's info and just get an opinion that way? Toby is 33 months and I know it will be an adjustment for him. This is a scary process when you don't know a lot about it....... Re: Message to New Members Thank you for sharing that! I am glad Noah is doing so well. Salt Lake is top notch for sure. Guest guest
You have to be your childs best advocate..learn everything you can, every aspect of treatment that may benefit Toby, whether it be casting or not. Have you ordered the DVD from yet and read the articles in the files section? They help explain quite a bit. I know it's scarry at first, but you're in a good place! Guest guest
If Price is unwilling to learn Denver is the next closest. You could certainly send them Toby's information and ask them for their opinion. It would go to Dr. Mark kson at The Children's Hospital. They have a new facility, so I don't have the addy, but I bet Rochelle does. Shellie Murrays wrote: That is so comforting to know. We are going to a consult w/ our dr Wednesday. Guest guest
I would have to agree 100% with . We too have a 32 month old Noah that sees Dr. D'Astous in SLC and have never had issues. It is possible! Noah is in his 6th cast, has been casted since 15 month, and everything has went amazingly smooth. We will return to SLC in May for Noah's first brace. Noah started casting at 78 degrees and is now down to 20 degrees in this cast. Would definitaly not say that it's been easy, but it is bearable. Noah, also, has never had to have his cast trimmed, cut off early, nausea, skin breakdown. He was, once ,very brused when his cast was cut off because it was so tight, however we got GREAT correction. We did purchase a new carseat as the carseat straps were to tight to go over the top strap of the cast. All in all, at the time Noah was 14 months are only other alternative as surgery. So, we are incredibly happy with the decision that we made and our very greatful to have found Shriners, this message board, ISOP and . Guest guest
GREAT point ! Sorry I am just now getting to this post, but I must agree. We really didn't have major complications. Of course that 1st cast was scary. And it took a few weeks for and our family to adjust, but all and all it was not bad. Never had to have a cast removed(for being too tight or a leaky diaper), no skin break downs, had the same car seat before, during and after, no problems with anesthesia and actually got " The Cleanest Cast Award " at our hospital. LOL.....no really we did. I still have that cast. Anyway if you are new and freaking out after reading so many problems......well I did too. I was horrified and much to our surprise after that first cast it was something we could handle. had a total of 6 casts over 14 months. One of those casts was on for a little over 3 months(best correction). He did everything his twin brother did and more sometimes. Nothing held him back. If you are trying to decide about casting.........go for it! It really is not that bad. Most of all it can correct your child's spine or buy you time before surgery. We have been blessed. Good luck and feel free to ask questions regarding specifics. Take care, Tasha Mommy of twin boys- and 35 months Fort Worth, Texas is currently in a brace-8 degrees out of brace!!!! wrote: Hello, We seem to have a lot of new members out there lately.
