Guest guest
I was dx'ed with IR in January 2003. The doctor in question was from Iran and had gone to med school in Moscow. I'd guess she was about the same age as myself (45, er, 46 in a month!). On another positive note - my AVS experience the week before last at UCLA was the opposite of what you are describing, actually. I'd say I was almost old enough to be the mother of many of those " young whippersnappers " with M.D. degrees who I dealt with, and they were all so polite and interested and involved with my case. Guest guest
This one was excellent. For example, she understood that " calories in, calories out " was an oversimplification and that it was more complicated than that for those of us with insulin resistance. She helped me when conventional wisdom failed, so really, how she got her degree is less important than how she used her brain IMO. > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> >From: Clarence Grim <lowerbp2@ <mailto:lowerbp2%40mac.com > > > > > > > >> >> >> >>> >Subject: Re: Labs 5/16/11 > > > >> >> >> >>> >To: hyperaldosteronism > > > >> >> >> <mailto:hyperaldosteronism%40yahoogroups.com> > > > >> >> >> >>> >Cc: " Clarence Grim " <lowerbp2@ <mailto:lowerbp2%40mac.com > > > > > > > >> >> >> >>> >Date: Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 3:12 PM > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> >Tell me you HAVE already stopped smoking! > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> > > > > >> >> >> >>> >The Shaken the salt ploy won't help much unless you > > cook everything > > > >> >> >> from scratch. Guest guest
My endo from Pakistan was completely incompetent. She never listened to my heart, ever. Finally, my husband listened and his jaw dropped. I was skipping 2 - 3 beats every 13. I called her and she called in Toprol XL. Never saw me until months later. At that meeting, she couldn't find my file in her computer. I got a prescription for Inspra and RAN. Guest guest
My last doctor, a corn-fed white American from the midwest, educated in American medical school, diagnosed my PA as " anxiety " and " a typical middle-aged woman problem " when I presented with low K and palpitations. Guest guest
I was put in hospital for 8 days with intake and output measured. Intake was calculated to be 300 calories a day - diet was hospital administered, confined to bed, no visitors permitted. I gained 15 lbs in those 8 days. Was not on IV so gain not due to the drip. Now I average 600 calories a day - 5'1 " and 195 lbs. I pole walk 5 kms a day in 42 minutes or less. Also my pedometer indicates an additional 12,000 steps or more per shift I work which is three shifts a week. What level of calories do you suggest for me as obviously I am overeating. It is always calories in = calories out. The issue is to find the level that reduce your weight. Eat less mostly. CE Grim MD

Guest guest
We used to do this at Duke as well on the Rice Diet Ward-900 calories. Those who did not lose weight were doing one or more of several things1. Going out for pizza.2. Going to the food machines3. One was even lowering a basket out of the window with a rope and "friends" were packing it with goodiesIn your case I expect the calories were not correct. I know of not hospital that will fee a 300 calorie diet for 8 days.So I recommend that you have your team write you as the first ever human that did not lose weight on 300 calories a day. Indeed you gained weight.Maybe the were giving you heavy water? ;-)Did they measure Na and K in the urine as it had to also be a low sodium meal with only 300 calories.CE Grim MDI was put in hospital for 8 days with intake and output measured. Also if I get the rant on how Americans just like to be sick- I actually had one say that over and over. He didn't ask where I was born idiot! Including the incompetent corn-fed white American ones, I hope. > and then the incompetent ones be all deported to Pakistan and placed inside Osama's mansion before blown up. > > Max. Guest guest
Ummmm - interesting as it is to read a little insight into the minds of middle America, I too suspect race and ethnicity has very little to do with a doctor's ability. Having never been seen by an all-American doctor, I can't guarantee that they're not streets ahead of all others but I've very rarely had an issue with any of the doctors I've ever seen. From whatever background... And given that my diagnosis here (by doctors whose first language is not English) was really excellent, I'd just like to put a vote in the 'foreigners rock' box.
