Hi : I hope they're not jumping on the natural aromatics/aromatherapy bandwagon with an eye towards somehow patenting the materials, and removing it from the hands of everyone not " official " . The positive side of me wants to think otherwise. Guest guest
They've not yet offered any info on this end of the spectrum but at least in continuing Ed in pharmacy, herbs and supplements are becomming validated. That said, this has been an argument that is still going on with those who produce products with 'good intentions' and very little education on the caveats. To me aroma therapy is 'relative' and has every thing to do with a persons formative years. What is supposed to help anxiety might very well cause a panick attack if they've been abused growing up and that particular scent was always around.....we all know that used it, the thoughts of 'home' would bring us smells of foods , times of year, and very specific experiences that are so comforting. I understand the concept behind the Bach essences and also by what we experience while we learn and play with oils and we all know (most of us) on this board anyway that oils need to be diluted. But the MLM's are causing us more damage and less credibility and some flat out make those of us who do treasure what we do and the research we've done and constantly do and put people in danger....a check signed for an eo kit does not an herbalist/practiioner/perfumer make.....this is a debate I've seen split on other boards people who instead of 'listening' or before they comment doing more research and then you have a board divided and many people who had developed friendships totally disolve. The FDA is going to find a way to get their cut. The AMA is already validating supplements sold in healthfood stores for years to address carpal tunnel and diabetic neuropathy.......so you can get a prescription for those and pay 40*50 bucks for a month or go to a known product (you will find vitamins, supplements, oils and glandulars in many self owned pharmacies.....or a franchise that was purchased. legally A pharmacist could do and sell what you do and not a head would turn......but let someone without credentials other than a card that says 'hi, I sell x oils, the best on the planet'.....these debates get very heated.....foods count too.....I'm cooking a pot of beans to day in a way that I make them and the scent already has the home calm.....I could use light oils when my kids were little and use sound therapy at just barely at an audible level of a slow ocean and the change in the energy in the house was almost intantaneous. You guys are so advanced at what you do I'll not even try to tell you what you know so much more than I do. I come from the medicinal aspect in blending...its hard to not think about the potentials of interactions or even of the benefits without being biased and not in the state of mine I should be. I've got one foot in the arena of blending oils and another foot in the arena of medicine and its not easy. I will say the MLM's have caused so much damage I'm simply against them. If you want to know how things are presented.....pay the ten bucks to attend one of the seminars and dont think you've wasted that money.....its worth every penny to know what is bringing attention to those who are well learned , careful and educated. And then of course as mentioned before , the FDA's interest as well as the pharmaceutical aspect and what they want. I want to be able to buy what I want so that I can make my own products that work for me and I'd like to know that what I've formulated for a product that is for cleansing purposes or scented lotions, oils etc....is something I will always have the freedome to purchase . Once they put a product behind the pharmacists counter good luck. I'm sure I'm off of the original issue but this thing is like an octopus with tentacles in every aspect of what we do and what we love to do. If they want to gauge the use of oils and natural products? Let them focus on the MLM.s. Keep signing petitions to keep your accessablity to the oils, herbs, rare oils etc.... Its going on almost 30 years that this has loomed over our heads and every year we signed petitions, went out to get others to do so and now? Our worse fear is becomming a real probability vs a possibility. I find it a bit ironic that something that actually is dangerous , alcohol is cratering families and we are the people they want to oppress. I'f I'm off of the target....at least I got my say out. Working in that field was stressful as we were constantly being sent info with vague threats...I assumed that this would not be as important given the other issues in our country but .......guess not. I'll also not pay 15.00 for a cheap common oil because some company states theirs is superior. Fairy Tales indeed. Btw, there are those who have an ND who still have no c lue as to what they are doing. Our local ND is pushing 375 and discussion nutrition.......any one see a problem here? evie

The > positive side of me wants to think otherwise. > Hi ListMom, Folks.... From the nature of this message, I would say not yet, at any rate....While Drugs.com is allied with FDA for consumer info, it is not part of FDA....They are, as I said, though, primarily focused on issues of Pharma, and Mainstream in nature.... Whether as to FDA is up to something, is another issue....I would expect that to be reported on Drugs.com, if and when it happens.... I did notice the plug for NAHA at the end...<G>... The other thing, is that in the US, there is *no* official standard to certify for AT Practice....I suppose it could be regulated to the realm of standard medical practice, and restricted to current med profession for access to MD's/DO's, RN's, LMT's and Naturalpaths.... My experience in dealing with allopathic medical professionals, is that they've heard about AT, and generally that's about it....That could change, if the attitude towards AT expressed in this article is reflecting Mainstream med thought... Article Ref: http://www.drugs.com/news/aromatherapy-more-than-just-pleasant-scent-37816.html Where I see the FDA screwing with Natural Essences is the Cosmetics Industry, and here I would include Perfumers, Mainstream and Natural...
