Guest guest
Not having a thyroid makes for very difficult weight control. Any bacon or sausage is high salt. Most bread is too much salt for you. I used to make my own. You're going to have to start tracking what you eat. I use FitDay and it tells me calories and nutrients. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Licia Yes, I need to be more aware of what exactly is it that I am doing. I know working at night, I am never hungry in the morning. Granted on the weekends I have a couple eggs raisin bread toast w/jam and butter, trying recently to quit the processed bacon and sausage. How about turkey bacon? But I read that what ever they use to process that is more detrimental than regular bacon, is that true. Think the salt content is high. Well I am slowly losing because the last time I was weighed it was about 152 and yesterday even the nurse said, " I'm so use to moving the 150 weight " and now i'm 145. Think the up and down with the spiro has got me all turned around. Because I have never been a big eater and when I do eat I graze, small bites here and there which will take me hours to eat. We'll all get on track, God willing. Licia All the blood work was taken in the afternoon. My pressure started to get out of whack, when I switched from Lisinopril and Norvasc, To Diovan, Bistolic and the water pill, then to diaovan and spiro, then stopped the spiro, and picked up the labetalol, then back to the spiro labetalol, and stopped the bistolic and diovan. All starting out from 12/2008. now i'm currently on spiro 100 4x's a day 25mgs, sembastin, vit d, 1 a week, and then

Guest guest
every one keeps mentioning diets and pills but what about intense exercise? not SOME exercise but serious consistent aerobic exercise? i cant recall any friends or patients obese or not., who didnt lose some weight with a serious, not part time, routine. >Good work. Actually I worked in a Phen-fen clinic for about 2 weeks before the valve issue came out. I was very impressed with the wt loss they were seeing and how good they were feeling. > >CE Grim MD > > >> >> I've struggled with weight since my early 20's. Yes, I like to eat but I think there is more to it than that. Overweight people are not big, fat slobs who eat constantly without giving any thought to what goes into our mouths, somehow our bodies react differently to food. I used to work with a lady who was 5'2, weighed 102 pounds and ate like a 300 pound truck driver. Her motto was " a meal isn't a meal unless you've had desert " . She'd eat a huge lunch with desert, and an hour later be munching on a candy bar. I tried to hate her but she was just too darned nice ;-) I think I've tried every diet known to man, some several times. About 17 years ago I took Phen-fen when it was all the rage, with low expectations in the beginning. I was amazed when I lost almost 50 pounds in 6 months. But the weight loss wasn't the most amazing thing about the drugs. For the first time food became a non-issue in my life, I could take it or leave it. I actually had to remind myself to eat at times and I remember thinking, this must be how normal people feel about food. I sometimes think I'd risk the possible heart valve problems I I could get it again, that's how good I felt while taking it. When it was taken off the market I almost cried and of course gained it all back over time. Weight Watchers is probably the most healthy, sustainable diet around and you actually get to eat real food. I figured it out once, it's about 1200-1300 calories per day. I used to lose pretty well when I stuck to it but the older I get I find I lose very slowly on it, and only if I do some type of exercise daily. The key for me is taking the time to write down every single bite that goes into my mouth, which is a pain. >> a >> >> >> >> >> >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> >Subject: Re: Labs 5/16/11 >>> >To: hyperaldosteronism >>> >Cc: " Clarence Grim " >>> >Date: Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 3:12 PM >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> > >>> >Tell me you HAVE already stopped smoking! >>> > >>> > >>> >The Shaken the salt ploy won't help much unless you cook everything from scratch. Guest guest
I don't think I'm the exception - to be blunt, there are a LOT of fat people at the gym! If you go to a gym regularly (or bike path, or hiking trail, etc) you'll see the same people day in, day out, huffing and puffing, and never losing an ounce. I wonder how often there is an overriding condition (PA, insulin resistance, Cushing's, etc) that can contribute to weight gain, but it goes undetected; meanwhile the patient just gets fatter and fatter, and gym-going and dieting (e.g. the big fat failure of the misguided 1990s low-fat craze) don't work, and the doctors don't test for IR or PA or whatnot and instead dish out the old calories in/calories out dogma... Guest guest
Just like we all blame the docs . . .makes it about even. many of those likely eat to match when they get home and may eat more thinking they can or they wrk out more naturally increasing appetite. ITs possible. Thats not hateful but again everyone who isnt losing weight isnt inherently perfect and would be a svelte 100lbs if it wasnt for hormones and evil docs. >I don't think I'm the exception - to be blunt, there are a LOT of fat people at the gym! Guest guest
And i see as many at the gym huffing and puffing and looking great and see many who didnt look so good at first who look great now. In their case, and since we dont like the docs who blame the patient, IF someone was overweight and improved who then gets the credit for the improvement? Do we blame the patient only when thing go their way? or should the doc then take credit? >I don't think I'm the exception - to be blunt, there are a LOT of fat people at the gym! Guest guest
Here here!! I haven't changed my diet much in twenty years. All my friends say I eat healthier than thy do. I gained weight and especially in the face. I had adrenal surgery and lost 35 lbs. I then had RA and was put on steroids. Poof fat again! I am on drugs that list weight gain as a side effect! Ten you go into the dr and thy say lose weight! I say how?? I'm on 4 drugs that list weight gain as side effect and so I tried physical therapy. No matter what excercise they had me do I hurt. For years it hurt. Finally one dr says let's get an MRI of your neck. They had to rush surgery because if I fell or picked up something too heavy I could sever my spinal cord. My neck was 1/2 inch out of line. I felt like screaming at all those Drs who said just work out and not listening to me.! Now I'm told I can swim 10 minutes every other day. If I had a pool. So I'm told I can only do very light exercise but I tryto eat very healthy and I keep gaining weight. I'm stuck. But the prejudice towards women being overweight is so harsh. Doctors who know why I'm fat still make comments. Strangers feel the need to make fatty comments. People assume if you're fat you must be a lazy sloth with no feelings. If a medication lists weight gain as a side effect then why am I wrong to say it caused me to gain weight? I don't think I'm the exception - to be blunt, there are a LOT of fat people at the gym! Guest guest
The weight gain due to most meds is due to an increase in appetite. So again it comes down to calories in - calories out.CE Grim MDHere here!! If you go to a gym regularly (or bike path, or hiking trail, etc) you'll see the same people day in, day out, huffing and puffing, and never losing an ounce.I wonder how often there is an overriding condition (PA, insulin resistance, Cushing's, etc) that can contribute to weight gain, but it goes undetected; meanwhile the patient just gets fatter and fatter, and gym-going and dieting (e.g. the big fat failure of the misguided 1990s low-fat craze) don't work, and the doctors don't test for IR or PA or whatnot and instead dish out the old calories in/calories out dogma... Guest guest
I can assure you I understand the struggle with weight.CE Grim MDPeople who haven't experienced your ordeal can't understand or believe it. What is horrendous is when doctors make statements like, "The problem hormone is the mouth." Dr. Grim knows how carefully I keep records. I'm telling you, nothing I did, including phen-fen, did a thing for my weight until I got to the bottom of the problem. Val P.S. It is all Bush's fault (at least that which is not Obama's fault). From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of BinghamSkinny fat tall short black white brown doesnt matter . . . . .its what we are putting in our mouths whether salt sugar tobacco alcohol no matter what that is killing us. not sure what is horrendous about that. The other option is we are all so perfect it is all walmarts, big pharm, big oil, the rich doctors, mcds, oh and bushs fault or we would do nothing wrong. Guest guest
I disagree - you sound like you *don't* understand the struggle with weight. There are some of us who are NOT overeaters. Hard to believe, I know. > >> > > >> >>The problem hormone is the mouth. > >> > > >> > > >> > >> > >> > > > > >
