Guest guest
Hi everyone. Someone mentioned your site at the yahoo group 'incense-exchange', which I found from, gee, I don't even remember anymore. I may have arrived there from Olfactory Rescue, which I still read a great deal. I've always burned, but never made. I've been buying incense for the last 40 years and it wasn't until lately that I experience Shoyeido Ten-pyo Minorien Fuin Kyara and a few others, which gave me a renewed interest in the field. (I'm debating if I should buy kyara ryugen once in my life.) I don't believe I've ever burned a home-made scent. I guess I always thought this was outside the realm of possibility I'm from northern Pennsylvania, and have 100 acres of wooded/tillable land with an orchard that I've never looked at with a 'perfumery' eye. I am currently making my first tincture of pine sap-it just smelled so incredible, I had to do something with it. I thought this was going to be the best in the world!, but having looked around a bit, found out it's pretty much a bottom tier resin. I have a back injury, and I'm mentioning that because I can't do many of the things I could do a year ago.. And although I can't 'do' a lot of thing, I can burn incense, and this has been a really good thing. I have an opportunity to really pay attention now. I've started taking notes the last few months. I'm trying to figure out what programs will allow me to index my notes. I don't know if I need a database program or what. I have about an acre of wildflower beds, and a small orchard. With an eye to the spring, I'm looking into what I can do with my fruit tree blossoms. Thanks for letting me join your group.
Guest guest
Aloha Ted, Nice to have you join us! I read your introduction with much delight...I met Ross from Olfactory Rescue at a class we took and he was kind enough to share his wisdom of naturally all things incense and the Kodo ceremony and I recently went to two fantastic incense shops in Japan Town while I was in the Bay area. I witnessed the scented beauty of all the fragrances and companies you described and had to take some home with me to Honolulu! It's funny you mentioned the kyara ryugen...I was asked in one of the shops if I wanted the best and they burned a sample for me but then they burned some of the Fuin Kyara and I told them that was good enough for me for now and the guy said you're like me you choose the middle path but Ross loves the kyara ryugen! I guess when I go back in a couple months I'll have to buy some of the kyara ryugen when I'm a little more " experienced " ! I also want to make my own " home grown " incense using botanicals I have grown myself. Loved reading how you have " stepped outside the box " by looking at your situation with a 'perfumery eye " ! You'll find lots of creative people, interests, ideas and information here and in the group archives. You are where you are meant to be...right here....right now! Welcome! In joy!
