Guest guest
Hello! I have been lurking on this list for a while now and wanted to finally introduce myself. I have learned so much already from being on this list; I am so thrilled that it exists! My name is Gattis-Sanoja. I am a single mother of 2 teenage daughters and I have finally decided to finish college! I would like to supplement my limited income with a natural perfumery and herbal/essential oil blends for cosmetic purposes. So, this list is extremely beneficial to me. Also, one of the earlier posts concerning a honey tincture spurred my interest in the divine aroma of honey and I started researching honey absolutes. I found that they are made by a " direct alcohol washing " of crude yellow beeswax. Has anyone ever done this? Is it possible to do on a small scale? I found that beeswax is " insoluble in water; sparingly soluble in alcohol; very soluble in ether " . However, I am kind of scared of working with ether due to it's high price and it's flammable nature. I'm wondering if 100 proof Vodka would work... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Gattis-Sanoja

I don't have info on this but am very interested to see what others might have to say, since my dad recently started raising bees up in Maine and is saving the wax for me. I wonder if making a tincture using 190 proof Everclear would work for the " direct alcohol washing " . Take care, Hanna
