Hi!

My name is , and I have an addiction to things that smell good. Perfumes,

essential oils, flowers, even cooking! I've been doing aromatherapy for myself

and my mother and sister for years... stemming from the crafty DIY attitude my

mother instilled in us.

My first natural perfume was created when I was in 4th grade... my sister and I

discovered that the magnolia petals in our front lawn gave a wash off fake

tan... I fell in love with the smell. So took some test tubes my food scientist

mother had in the office... and put magnolia, prickly pear cactus, juniper berry

and honeysuckle in there... since that is what smelled good at that time around

our yard. I mashed them up, and then forgot about them for a month. My young

self knew nothing of preservatives, and upon reopening them was crushed that my

creamy sweet outdoor blend 'smelled like dead people' because it had fermented.

Many years later, after going through a wicca phase, I learned about tinctures.

So my teenage self had made several first aid blends with dried herbs of my

mothers, and some really cheap vodka dad had left from his college years. It

still wasn't the rich perfume smell I was looking for... but I was pleased it

was useful and didn't smell like rotting.

These days, I am a Senior at the University of Missouri (working with

Educational Technology), and trying to learn how to do what my 10 year old self

dreamed of doing- making a perfume of stuff I find in nature (or someone else

found and turned into a beautiful oil from far away lands). In the last few

months I made two blends that I loved the smell of and would use for more than

just baths/ anxiety. But on the student budget... I still had a limited pallet.

So for my graduation/ Christmas present to myself, I made orders to White Lotus

and Eden Botanicals after reading many blogs from the Natural Perfume Guild. So

much information from so many brilliant minds!

My order should be in 2 days from now, and I am hankering to try my hand at

blending with oils I didn't buy from our natural food store :P

And that is likely much more of an introduction than you guys really wanted to

hear! I look forward to getting to know everyone here. Spent the last day

lurking a bit, and have already learned so much!

(You guys totally inspired an enfluage project whenever I get a chance to visit

the boyfriend's parent's farm. They have some bourbon roses he has been raving

about- and I had been wondering for weeks how to capture their scent best).
