Guest guest
, Thanks for your info. I am getting better advice on this board than I have from any doctor. I have never been on spiro or epeleroneH. I had never even heard of these meds until yesterday. I have had well meaning friends & loved ones tell me, you must not be taking your bp meds or just take them and don't worry. Well, I wish that it would be that simple. Last night my last blood pressure reading was 108/65 before going to bed & I actually felt normal for a few hours. Then suddenly at about 4:20 a.m. I was awake with chest pain, left arm pain, & left sided flank pain. I was not anxious, but I did have slight shortness of breath. I checked my bp and it was about 140/95 lying & standing it was 146/101. I have been reading the posts and files since yesterday. It's amazing to find so many people that have had the same symptoms & frustrations as I. Thanks again for your help. > >> > > > > > >> > > > > The endocrinologist told me that it appears to be a non-functioning > >> > > > adenoma. Can be sitting or laying for aldo test but time of day will change test. Guest guest
Unlikely it is the diuretic. Need more details. Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension Why would A diuretic cause blood pressure to rise sharply within 30-45 minutes? Would this be due to low K? Or if a K sparing diuretic K being to high? > > > > > > > > > > The endocrinologist told me that it appears to be a non-functioning > > > > adenoma. Guest guest
Always best to do the testing off drugs. Besides your numbers we need to know what is normal in the lab being used and the 24 hr urine results. Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension Four years ago I had blood tests and urine tests. I had slightly elevated adrenalin levels, high DHEA, high normal testosterone, low normal cortisol. The endocrinologist I had then was not a bit concerned about the findings. Now I look back and realize that since I was on blood pressure medicine it could have gave a false negative on the aldosterone blood test. Just about 2 weeks ago, I had only blood tests for cortisol levels, adrenaline, aldosterone, & renin. I also had a blood test to rule out carcinoid. The doctor says all is normal, but now I am almost certain that the aldosterone test that he took was taken totally wrong. Tomorrow I am going to call to make sure that my results are being sent to me and get the exact name for the aldosterone blood test that he took. Are all blood tests for aldosterone only accurate when the right posture, no meds, & timing are followed? Since I have an adrenal adenoma and severe symptoms I really think he is missing something. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The endocrinologist told me that it appears to be a non-functioning > > > > > > adenoma. Guest guest
I am not trying to be a smartass but I have to ask. If Conn's is such a common disease then why is it so hard to find doctors that can treat it properly? Also , why has it taken so long for me to get confirmation (and why do the docs order so many tests to confirm what they have confirmed)of what the oiriginal endocrinologist suspected? I went from the doc suspecting Conn's to 24 hour urine test, blood work, ct scan (showing a left adenoma), more bloodwork, more tests , dexamethazone test, cortisol tests, saline suppresion, and finally AVS. (I will be posting all results)? The doc susspected this in Dec and it is now May and 3 doctors and many miles later. I guess I just figure if it is so common then it should not be so difficult to recognize, confirm dx and treat it. Can someone explain? Thank you. > > > >> > > > > > > > >> > > > > The endocrinologist told me that it appears to be a non-functioning > > > >> > > > adenoma. Guest guest
As having a kidney stone is one of the most painful things one can have I would suggest the increase in BP was due to the pain.Stopping BB all of a sudden can lead to sharp rise or stopping Catapress. Need to know names of meds.Clarence E. Grim, BS, MS, MD Specializing in Primary Aldosteronism, Difficult High Blood Pressure and recent evolutionary forces on high blood pressure in populations today. I think that my primary doctor was switching me over from another type of blood pressure med (?beta blocker)that I was not tolerating. The sudden increase happened on the first day of the switch. I also has a 5 mm kidney stone at the time. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The endocrinologist told me that it appears to be a non-functioning > > > > > > adenoma. Guest guest
One reason that I am suspecting based on strange observations is that PA patients are excellent category of guinea pig patients for drug companies to experiment their new drugs. The doc pretends not to have a clue of reason for patient's HTN and tries all kinds of drugs on the poor patient knowing that none would lower BP...and doc drags this until patient is in dire need of either losing kidneys or heart failure and then prescribes Spiro (earlier decades: Triamterene)... Because I kept track of all my medical test results, I presented a graph of my K to my doc and demanded to explain why based on such low K results at the very 1st visit he had not been able to diagnose me with PA because low K is the most basic symptom of PA...and he became very furious of being sued replied that he had had no experience with PA and never had a PA patient...the most dumb stupid answer to relieve himself from keeping me on stupid drugs for some 10 years...these doctors are slaves of drug companies... One clue to how new drugs are tested on patients is that doc gives you something from inside his drawer or basement lot which is supplied by the drug company visitors who frequently bring these samples to doc's office...So always we must be very very cautious about why he gives us from his office...One major reason governments have legislated such fear-mongering laws called privacy acts is to force patients not to know about other similar patients' experiences with experimental drugs...but thanks God the Internet is revealing their conspiracies and soon like tobacco companies drug companies also alienated and.... Guest guest
I was the first to suggest drug resistance in PA about 6 years ago. The company that developed eplerenone for HTN has gotten it approved to treat HTN but has not marketed it as a good HTN Rx. Suspect they have been worried about problems with high K when given to pts with renal problems. The only way I ever got experience with newly released BP meds was to use free samples in pts who had no way to pay for any drugs. One can get experience only by trying them. Trying new ones that are free is a better way to get practitioners to learn about the meds IMHO. Clarence E. Guest guest
Every State has a Board of Medicine that issues licenses to health care providers. They also investigate complaints that any of us can ask them to. Is not DX PA something that we should put in a complaint for? In NH every 2 years the license has to be renewed. From what it states here all providers have to take Continuing Medical Education classes. It would seem that the states could make sure Dr are up to speed on PA •The Board sends out renewal applications on or before March 1 of each licensee's renewal year which are due by June 30th. •The renewal applications must be filled out completely and the completed renewal must be either in the hands of the Board or postmarked by June 30th of the year in which your license renewal is set to occur. •The renewal application is not considered complete until all Continuing Medical Education ( " CME " ) requirements are fulfilled. The NH Medical Society ( " NHMS " ) handles CME reporting. The NHMS sends the Board a list of all physicians who have not completed their CME requirements. If you are on this list (i.e., delinquent in fulfilling CME requirements) but you file a completed renewal application, your application is considered INCOMPLETE. The application will be returned to you unprocessed. If your CME is incomplete, you will not be renewed. •IF YOU HAVE NOT RENEWED BY JUNE 30 OF THE YEAR IN WHICH YOUR RENEWAL IS SET TO OCCUR, YOU CANNOT LAWFULLY PRACTICE MEDICINE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND YOUR LICENSE IS EXPIRED. •There is typically a rush of applications in the last week of June, which the Board cannot possibly process. However, if the renewal application, including up-to-date CME, is in the Board's hands or postmarked by June 30 of the year in which your license renewal is set to occur, you may practice lawfully while the application is being processed. However, the implications here are obvious: if the application is received June 30, but found on July 1 or later to be incomplete, you will be considered to have an expired license. If you have been practicing on July 1 and later, you will have been practicing without a license. One Board member who runs a NH hospital requires his physicians to renew in plenty of time to present a current license card well before June 30 for exactly this reason. •The " 90 day extension " in the Board's rules do NOT allow a physician to practice lawfully after June 30 of the year in which the licensee's renewal is set to occur if the license renewal is incomplete. It DOES allow the physician to complete the renewal process by filling out the same application and paying double the renewal fee. After 90 days, the physician must fill out a reinstatement application, which includes references, a criminal background check, and multiple other requirements. •Please be sure to have your completed renewal application in the Board's office well before June 30 of the year in which your license renewal is set to occur so as not to risk practicing medicine without a license in New Hampshire. > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > The endocrinologist told me that it appears to be a non-functioning > > > > > >> > > > adenoma. Guest guest
Nearly ALL docs PA's NP's see any and all pharm reps as a huge intrusion. the myth that the docs get perks is long gone. getting 10 pens is not worth hearing their schtick and giving up 15 to 20 minutes of the patients time or my lunch. I will take the samples as i use them for my poorer patients. but samples are always tested and approved never experimental. DOesnt mean they may not be ultimately harmful or no good >Damn! Guest guest
No. By the time they get to his office they have been tested and approved for specific indications. But the doctor has never used them. If all other drugs have failed then he can write an Rx for a new med but will cost a bundle and it may not be on your formulary. So if he orders a months supply and you have a problem with the first dose you are out of $$. If I use the samples you are out nothing if there is a problem. I have used many samples this way but I was specializing in drug resistant HTN and older drugs had failed. I was always glad to get sample to see if I could improve BP control. The most impressive ones I learned to use this way were Lotrel (amlodipine and benazapril) and Ziac(bisoprolol and HCTZ). Lotrel avoided the edema seen with amlodipine. Then I found that the combination of both was very effective in most folks. This has been my favorite. I called it the LoZi combo or a combo of combos.CE Grim MDNearly ALL docs PA's NP's see any and all pharm reps as a huge intrusion. the myth that the docs get perks is long gone. getting 10 pens is not worth hearing their schtick and giving up 15 to 20 minutes of the patients time or my lunch.
