Good grief. That's terrible. Here's the real Victorie Inc website, and

their floral enfleurage page:

http://www.victorie-inc.us/floral-enfluerage.html

As you can see, their genuine macerations are much more expensive.

Victorie should complain to the Essential Oils Company as well!!

What a scam!

Happy New Year Dear Group...

I recently purchased some absolutes from " The Essential Oil Company "

www.essentialoilscompany.com and while the oils smell lovely, I feel they are

adulterated with synthetics. I should have known by the price I paid that they

could not be authentic but I purchased them anyway and below is the description

for the Gardenia Absolute. I wrote to the company and I am waiting for a reply.

This is an authentic gardenia jasminoides maceration grown and extracted by

Victorie Inc.  This maceration has a stronger scent profile than all the other

macerations we have tested through out the years.  Our gardenia maceration is

infused in a special olive oil base using a cold process extraction.  Perfect

for aromatherapy, skin care or natural perfumes!

Gardenia is highly used in Perfumery as well as cosmetics.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated:)

Hi, I'm in Australia and I recently purchased quite a good amount of oils from

Amit at Essential Oils Company. His Sandalwood oil is gorgeous. He was extremely

generous and sent me very large quantities of free samples including Double

Super Oud and substantial amounts (5 - 10mls) of Frangipani, Osmanthus, Tuberose

and Champaka absolutes because I pestered him so hard about the

quality/integrity of the oils. He also sent me some oils that he selected for me

including Root and Ruh Khus (Vetiver) which are great. He distills his

own rose oil, as well as many other essential oils and oud to make his attars

and to blend specialist perfumes for the Arab market, he buys his absolutes from

a South Indian company, and his large Middle Eastern client base are very happy

with his products. So I reckoned, the Indians and Arabs have been

trading/growing/blending and wearing exquisite ungents and aromatics far longer

than me and mine, so I'll give it a shot. I was very happy with the products and

I am utterly smitten with the heavenly rose attar that I've made from his

sandalwood and rose otto. Swoonworthy! At all times Amit was very friendly,

patient, helpful and considerate despite my anxiety about our cultural/language

and continent disparities. We spoke twice on the phone and he answered all my

endlessly annoying emails within 2 - 3 days. I am well pleased and will

definitely be going back for more as soon as I can sell my.... anything, I'm

hooked. If anyone wants to organise a perfumer's tour to Kannauj to visit Amit

and tour the rose growing/distilling and bottling corner of Uttar Pradesh, count

me in. Let's get a good group discount!

Dear Teone:

I'm afraid you've been conned. Did you read this link earlier?

le-Essential-Oils-quot-Prices-too-good-to-be-true

Same folks. I have been buying oils wholesale for many years,

and I do not know of ONE supplier who would give free samples in

the size you qoute of those very pricey aromatics. Not one. He

sent you synthetically-compounded perfume oils. There is

probably some natural aromatic in there, but just a tiny amount.

I hope this group can help you on your aromatic quest, and that

my post doesn't upset you too much. I am 100% sure of my

statement about the supplier.

Thanks Anya,

I do sincerely appreciate your expert guidance, and yes, it does seem logical

enough to wonder at the veracity of these aromatic products, given their very

low prices. I did read that link from Basenotes a while back, it prompted me to

seek out a lot more information about downtown Farsh street in Kannauj and who's

who on the family tree of business in essential oil exporting. It's hazy, but

given that the primary industry over there is rose oil production and mass-scale

farming and distillation of floral essential oils, I figure there's probably

lots of related companies in the same area and business of trade. I also watched

the company's YT video of people loading agarwood onto trucks and squatting and

chipping at the agarwood and then scooping the droplets of distilled oil into a

metal dish by hand, (bare hands being the best instrument available). It made me

a little squeamish, but at the same time I recognised the earthly 'truth' of

this extraordinary oil's journey from the truck to the bucket and yep, it's

pretty grubby but it's so very real. This long journey of production feeds many

people.

It also made me think that I must follow my own foolish heart's instinct on

this, and continue to support Amit, at least in theory, as he has been very kind

to me. What ever transpires in any future transactions, con or no con, the

bottom line is that I know that the relative wealth and privilege that I have in

my white, western comfort zone can easily weather a few conniving knocks and

bruises, and this lesson might even turn out to be a great instrument of organic

learning in oil fidelity discernment for my trusty ol' nose.

thanks again for your very sound advice.

Hi

I just wanted to chime in here as well.

Another person and I were conned a couple of years ago by someone who

seemed extremely helpful, communicated wonderfully both in person to my

friend and by email to me (I was in a different country) - and gave us a

lot of personal attention. (Although interestingly this attention dried up

when I mentioned that I wouldn't be able to afford to buy from them very

often!!!)

His oils were actually pretty expensive! But the fact that they HAD several

rare oils that I'd heard hardly anyone could ever get hold of should have

rang louder alarm bells than it did. Also, in a conversation with my friend

this guy said a few things that sounded pretty weird to me - things about

about how to use absolutes that didn't tally with anything I'd read on this

email list. (Although I'd only been a member for a short time.)

Anyway, to cut a long story short, we bought the oils. I was suspicious by

that stage, but hoping desperately I was wrong ... and when they arrived

they were just as synthetic as could be. I did run one of the oils past an

experienced natural perfumer, just to confirm, and his response was ,

'whhwoaaarrr!!!! yuck!' :) (Somewhere in my head I had still been

trying to convince myself that at least the rose might be real. lol ....)

This was a lesson to me that the good suppliers, sadly, aren't the only

ones who give careful personal attention and 'go the extra mile' sometimes.

And if anyone would like to know the name of the supplier I'm happy to

share it off list. (Or onlist if that's okay, but I don't know if it is.)

Best wishes

Johanna

I meant to add to my last email, this perfumer and I then had a brief

conversation about con-artists in the natural aromatics industry, and

talked about the way that con-artists (in general) often are extremely nice

people who you feel warm towards or good about - they're often even quite

charismatic and compelling. Upsettingly, really, that's often part and

parcel of being a con-artist - it's part of the job description if you like.

Dear Teone:

You have a very long range view of things, and that is good. One

thing I forgot to bring up, is that such suppliers can satisfy a

need for those who have no problems using synthetic fragrance

materials. Many nowadays are touting they are " mixed media "

perfumers (I call it " mixed message " , :-)) and such products are

fine for them. However, if one wishes to use 100% natural

materials and call themselves a natural perfumer, those products

are not. That's all I wanted to add.
