Guest guest
Diet Mountain Dew - 12 oz = 50mg of sodium. that is 150 if I drink 3 cans per day.well within range i think. If I fail at DASHing, I will just take a smaller amount of HCTZ to make up for it if need be. I will just have to stay on the 3 low sodium bloody marys per day to offset it. lol Honestly, to some degree it is about quality of life, and not just length of time alive. Someone else said that in an earlier post. CHF is no joy ride exit, but neither is any other end of life exit strategy. I think we make some degree of compromise every morning we wake up. I am not going to make DASHing my life focus. Just pay attention to excess salt. Where possible and practical, avoid it. After enough health scares you start to realize that all the worrying and modifications it life style only delay the utimate exit. We cant spend every waking moment focusing on health concerns, else we are already partially dead. If i spend 10% of my waking hours doing exercise, but cant stand it...only to extend my life by 10%, then was that time spent exercising a fair trade? If i say no to a fine Chinese dinner with my son sharing our favorite dish together to "avoid" the bad salt, did I pass up on a good chance for quality time and bonding in the hopes that i will live an extra day or two without that memory together? I know, stupid point with all kinds of follow-up reasons on how we could have had a salad together and still spent time together. It wasnt about the food, but it is a one on one time we share together on occasion. I can find something else to eat there, but my point is I dont want to fixate every waking moment on being a DASHing fanatic, just be more aware and make better choices when I can. Awareness helps make the general trend of eating better more likely. ============================================================================45-Male-Caucasian, 5'9"- 234lbs, PA Diagnosed 2007 Suspected Hyperplasia-No tumors on CT - No AVS.Meds: 50mg Spiro, 1200mg Calcium, 500mg Magnesium, 100,000UI Vit D (weekly), 20mg OmeprazoleSide effects: Gynecomastia, stomach inflammationOther Diags: GERD, Hiatal Hernia, Metabolic Syndrome - PreDiabetic, Secondary Hyperparathyroidism caused by Renal calcium leak, Bone Cyct in left Femoral Head and Pelvis. Guest guest
I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. I've never been one to go overboard in anything, I believe in moderation, common sense and making the best choice we can, depending on the event. Like the old joke says, I started excercising to increase my life span. Now I get to spend an extra year in the nursing home. a Subject: Re: Re: SweetnerTo: "hyperaldosteronism " <hyperaldosteronism >Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 12:20 PM Diet Mountain Dew - 12 oz = 50mg of sodium. that is 150 if I drink 3 cans per day.well within range i think. Guest guest
You would have to take more HCTZ to get rid of the salt. This would mean more peeing out of K as well.CE Grim MDI agree wholeheartedly with what you said. Guest guest
Right. I am not taking any HCTZ right now. Stopped a week ago. I was just saying if I fail the DASHing I would have to take HCTZ again. One way or the other need to make sure the salt is not in me to have the Aldo do its damage. Like if I was maintaining equilibrium on my wild salt diet at 25mg of HCTZ, then less salt, but not total dashing I might be able to get by with 12.5 mg of HCTZ per day and just drink alot of low sodium V8 to avoid those K horse pills that mess up my gut. I am not surrendering to that yet. We will see in a month how well I am doing with the DASHing or salt moderating. ============================================================================45-Male-Caucasian, 5'9"- 234lbs, PA Diagnosed 2007 Suspected Hyperplasia-No tumors on CT - No AVS.Meds: 50mg Spiro, 1200mg Calcium, 500mg Magnesium, 100,000UI Vit D (weekly), 20mg OmeprazoleSide effects: Gynecomastia, stomach inflammationOther Diags: GERD, Hiatal Hernia, Metabolic Syndrome - PreDiabetic, Secondary Hyperparathyroidism caused by Renal calcium leak, Bone Cyct in left Femoral Head and Pelvis.
