Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension I'm pretty sure that nobody in this group *should* be eating that junk. This is why I find the DASH book to be almost un-navigable for me. It recommends processed junk foods like bagels, boxed cereal, granola bars, and microwave popcorn, as well as stuff loaded with artificial ingredients like bottled fat-free condiments. I wouldn't have touched that stuff before I was sick, and I'm not about to now! Sorry to rant but I read so much here about obesity and diabetes and other health problems in addition to the PA. Eating low salt and high K is all well and good, but I would think that in addition, eating only REAL food would be better. Okay, I'll step off my soapbox now. > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > Yuk, I hate Spiro!! It makes me fat!! What if I don't take it, > > > > >> what will happen. Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension I am sticking to real food too, although i do use splenda sweetener in my homemade raspberry lemonade and coffee.. Just started to do DASH for real. However, there is no way I am gonna live on 1200 calories. I have 800 for breakfast alone, lol. I did walk for 45 minutes last night and I was able to handle that pretty good. I got a ton of weight to lose, so i guess we can just chip away at it one day at a time. Guest guest
And have you tasted it. Most pts I have had do not really like it.CE Grim MDOne thing that is being pushed to lose weight is using things like slim fast or that type of drink. Ensure is also one of the things they push. Some of the drinks have over 900mg of K but have 250 mg of NA in 8oz. Maybe for some can drink this in place of V8. It is a bit costly. > >> >> >> > > Yuk, I hate Spiro!! It makes me fat!! Guest guest
Sometimes I get severe cluster headaches. When his happens fixing any meal is a chore. At those times I keep eas milk shakes. They have 0 sugar 17 g protien and 710 mg potassium. They are mostly soy protien and water but taste pretty decent. They have enough nourishment to keep me going. Look for the carb control ones if u don't want sugar. And they are 110 calorie 280 sodium. Drug stores have them usually I don't watch it much but my sister that lives with me has it on. Guest guest
Are walnuts and pumpkin seeds high k? I know I craved them like max when undiagnosed. Post surgery craving went away Actually I don't, since I'm also insulin resistant and a potato causes my blood sugar to drop too low from the huge insulin release. Lots of almonds, avocado, mushrooms, and spinach though - those are the high K foods that don't give me trouble. > >> >> > > > >> > > > >> > > >> >> > > > >> > > > >> > > Yuk, I hate Spiro!! Guest guest
My dr called it reactive hypoglycemia. Since I gave up (mostly) white foods and sugars, including juices and certain veggies, I've only passed out 5 times in 15 years. Here's how it was explained to me when I was diagnosed: my body responds to certain foods (carbs, basically) by putting out too much insulin, which in turn lowers my BS too much. I've passed out numerous times from this - my BS can drop as low as the 50s or 60s, which I understand to be dangerous. My HTN specialist thinks resolving the PA will resolve this. We'll see. > > > >> >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > > >> >> > > > >> > > > >> > > Yuk, I hate Spiro!! It makes me fat!! What if I don't take it, > > > >> >> > > > >> > > > >> what will happen. Guest guest
Yes, exactly! That's what my doctor at the time called it too. I have the same restrictions - no white foods, no fruits at all (for a different reason - my body doesn't produce the enzyme needed to digest the sugar in them), and limitations on certain veggies - mainly the ones with lots of K, like tomatoes and carrots. With those restrictions, it's really hard to get enough K without eating a portion meant for a 6'2 " man - msmith1928 45, female, 5'3 " , 120 lbs, 1cm left adrenal nodule, supine aldosterone 28.5/renin 0.2, potassium <2.9 (when not taking supplements); 25mg spiro caused gynecomastia; no HTN meds; current meds are 20MEQ K 2x/day, singulair 10mg, norethindrone .35mg, cyclobenzaprine 5-10mg when needed, fexofenadine 180mg when needed; low sodium, fructose- and grain-free diet > > > > > >> >> > > > >> > > > >> > > > > > > >> >> > > > >> > > > >> > > Yuk, I hate Spiro!! I am going to try and walk at least 30 minutes everyday. > >> >> > > > > >> >> > > > ============================================================================ > >> >> > > > 45-Male-Caucasian, 5'9"- 230lbs, PA Diagnosed 2007 Suspected Hyperplasia-No tumors on CT - No AVS. > >> >> > > > Meds: 50mg Spiro, 25mg HCTZ, 40meg Potassium, 2400mg Calcium, 1000mg Magnesium, 100,000UI Vit D (weekly), 40mg Omeprazole > >> >> > > > Side effects: Gynecomastia, stomach inflammation > >> >> > > > OtherÃÆ'‚ Diags: GERD, Hiatal Hernia, Metabolic Syndrome - PreDiabetic, Secondary Hyperparathyroidism caused by Renal calcium leak, Bone Cyct in left Femoral Head and Pelvis. Guest guest
Since I was 5 everytime we moved the docs said the same thing. So everytime they did a glucose tolerance test and I passed out before it was over. And they say well maybe she does, send her to a dietician. I know it was an 80's thing but that doesn't meN no one ever has it? I was tested again two years ago. Dr assumed I was diabetic. Pit me on metformin before any labs came back. After 3 days I had muscle problems so severe I couldn't walk. They carried me to dr and he checked labs. Oops I wasn't diabetic! I was reactive hypoglycemic. So now I keep his notes saying so. Reactive hypoglycemia is over diagnosed. In only dx it if glucose lower than 45 when u are having the problems. Tiped sad Send form miiPhone ;-)May your pressure be low!CE Grim MDSpecializing in DifficultHypertension My dr called it reactive hypoglycemia. We'll see. > > > >> >> > > > > >> >> > > Good for you with the real food > > > >> >> > > > > > >> >> > > Have you tried using Stevia (as a less-processed alternative to Splenda) to sweeten your lemonade?
