Guest guest
My Endocrinologist passed on this link for me to check out an article about long term treatment of PA. His opinion is the same as Dr. Grim's that PA should be treated with medication if possible. The article mentions the possible long term consequences of high aldosterone. However, the study finds that treatment with Spiro or surgery are equally effective in preventing cardiac problems/events. I found this very interesting and I am starting to understand why surgery might not be the best course of action for those who can control PA with meds. It will be interesting to see if the Endocrinology Society changes their recommended treatment of unilateral disease with surgery. It will probably take many more studies, but it might not be a good idea to rush right out and have surgery. Here is the link: http://www.medscape.org/viewarticle/568978 My research for surgery vs non surgery continues. However, seeing in print that the outcome was the same for meds vs surgery helps put my mind at ease about taking my time to make the best decision.
