Guest guest
talking of traditional foods... read an article today... mostly a book review of " The Winter Walk, " by Loretta Outwater , a true story about the life of her great grandmother, an Inupiaq from north western Alaska in the 1890's... it's a tragic story about survival and infanticide.... BUT... the NT point is in the following paragraph -- " Kipmalook and Qutuuq each used their siqlaq -- a homemade tool, like a pick -- to dig (wild potatoes) from the ground. Savokgenaq and Keenaq ran down to the river to wash some for everyone to eat as they dug them out of the ground. It was so much fun that day. It was hard work, but it was gratifying. ... " seems like the Inuit [at least some] did get some carbs even within the arctic circle after all!!! ... no mention of cooking the wild potatoes though... the article can be found on http://www.adn.com/life/v-printer/story/4235340p-4246953c.html Dedy
