Guest guest
Hi All, I just finished reading "Prevent and reverse hear disease" by Caldwell Esselstyn MD. The method he utilized for his small study seemed drastic, but result is good. The diet basically compose of all veges and fruits, no meat, no oil and dairy products. Has any one recommended this to his patients and the results? Any commands? Thank you. K. Guest guest
In my opinion, this type of diet might be okay for a temporary period of time, but will likely result in protein and fat deficiencies long term. The benefit of this diet on heart disease most likely comes from the reduction seed oils and refined/processed foods along with the anti-oxidant effects of a plant based diet. You can get the same effects on other diets like the Paleo Diet and the New Atkins diet. They focus on reducing the same heart disease producing foods. There are plenty of people reversing heart disease on a low carb-high fat diet like the New Atkins diet and the Paleo Diet. Here are a couple links to Jeff Volek's and Phinney's, books on Amazon. I've heard great things about these books, but have not read them.http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Science-Carbohydrate-Living/dp/0983490708/ref=la_B001JOYRQE_1_2?ie=UTF8 & qid=1343847386 & sr=1-2http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Science-Carbohydrate-Performance/dp/0983490716/ref=la_B001JOYRQE_1_3?ie=UTF8 & qid=1343847386 & sr=1-3My favorite book on the paleo diet is The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf. http://www.amazon.com/Paleo-Solution-Original-Human-Diet/dp/0982565844/ref=sr_1_1?s=books & ie=UTF8 & qid=1343847729 & sr=1-1 & keywords=the+paleo+solutionI have not seen a lot of good research coming out of the more vegetarian approach like Esselstyn, , Ornish that gives evidence that meat and saturated fat is harmful.
