Hello everyone:

We've have an influx of new member applications since the New York Times

article appeared yesterday. Welcome to everyone and I'm happy to say you

have found the best place on the Web to find out about making extracts

from flowers and other plant materials. I wrote a brief guide to

tincturing and infusing a few years ago and you can find that in the

Files section. There's a lot of member posts about these processes and

the extraction process known as enfleurage and also the industry art

known as distillation.

I do recommend you use the message search function first to scan past

posts about these subjects. You can do that by clicking on the

" messages " link in the left column on the website, and in the search box

that appears at the top of the messages page type in the phrase you wish

to search, e.g., tincture.

Feel free to ask questions, because sometimes the answer might surprise

you. For instance, you love the scent of daphnes? The flowers are

poisonous, so you're advised to stay away from them. Roses? We have many

eager here to write about their rose scent extraction experiences, from

oil to alcohol to enfleurage, and the members share many tips about the

processes. You'll be amazed at the range of fragrant garden materials

our members have worked with, including beeswax and " bee goo " .

Have fun!
