If you can get past the part about nutrition and the occasional coarse

language, this is an excellent resource for information on weight training,

especially for women:

Myths about weight training (including a bit about " toning " ):

Free weights:

Squatting (and why you should go all the way):

----->thanks! i read most of them, i especially like the one about squatting

and why a full free weight squat helps your knees rather than hurts them. i

will start free weight squats next week. although so far the smith machine

hasn't hurt my knees, as the article says it might.

you know i'm glad the weightlifting discussion came up several weeks ago

because i realize now that i've pretty much wasted the past year doing

relatively low weights/high reps on machines. not that i didn't benefit from

it as i've certainly developed a good deal of muscle mass, but it seems like

i was doing the least efficient method possible, plus setting myself up for

injury - and my knee HAS had painful episodes during that period. but i

believe my workout and fitness will be improved by all the suggestions i've

received from everyone on this list, so thanks everyone who's given input on

this subject! MUCH appreciated :-)
