I don't know what you mean. His PhD is in biology with a specialization in

physiology. He's continued with many years, decades I believe, of his own

research since his degree, in the subjects he writes about. He has done lab

research on fatty acids.

Well, what he says is that if we need pufa in the diet it is probably a

requirement of 0.5%. I think the typical reccomendation is about 5% of fat to

be

pufa, and if you are eating a 50% fat diet, Peat's suggestion would be 1%,

considerably lower than usual. I think his arguments are unconvincing, but the

general thrust of them-- that too much pufa is extremely harmful-- is true, IMO.

How do you know with anyone else?

If you are looking for an infallible source of information, there aren't any.

You can't rely on someone's credentials, reputation, or authority for

information. The easiest technique to decipher secondary information if you

aren't

up for reading the primary research is to read multiple points of view on each

issue and decide for yourself who has the most convincing argument.

Yeah, I disagree with his pufa-bashing but that's got nothing to do with his

credentials, which are solid.

These people didn't quite get it anyway, since the subjects of the book

aren't Price and his wife but the PEOPLE he studied. The book has

loooooooooooots

of pictures!

The other ones that caused smirks were the pictures of " criminals " in the

newspaper clippings. Oh well, sometimes people just don't want to wake up to

the truth, preferrring to pop their pills and blindly believe in " science " and

" medicine " .

Now this is quite interesting, since I remember a post from Enig

over at the coconut oil list " railing " against Ray Peat because of his

lack of credentials and actual bench work in working with fatty acids.

I thought at the time and still do today that it was a poor response to

Ray Peat and some of his claims. I welcome the refutation of a person's

claims but hate when a person's primary argument is against the other's

credentials and then a parading forth of their own credentials as if

that should be the end of the story.
