All animals have certain growth pattern changes that occur at birth, hence the definition of embryo, fetus, infant, etc. But these same changes occur in humans somewhere around 8 months after birth, rather than at birth, unlike the rest of the animal kingdom. It is believed that this is because the head would be so big as to make probably lethal complications in birthing for the mother.
