Guest guest
, As far as I'm aware, the body cannot synthesize the EFAs. Synthesis of an n-9 increases under PUFA deficiency, but not synthesis of the specific PUFAs that are necessary. Check out the archives of beyondprice for the thread " essentiality of EFAs " for a discussion of this topic in the form of criticism and defense of a Ray Peat article asserting the same. That said, I would avoid flax (linseed) oil for a variety of reasons, and yes, EFAs can be toxic and cancer-stimulating if consumed freely, especially omega-3 fatty acids. Small amounts of long-chain n-3s can be supplemented if one does not eat lots of fatty fish by cod liver oil, along with a high saturated fat diet. See the archives for a recent and extensive discussion on the merits of flax for my opinion on why the cost exceeds the benefit of flax oils. Omega-3s can stimulate cancer or at least intefere with treating cancer by interfering with the synthesis, release, and activity of arachidonic acid, which is anti-cancer (a long chain omega-6 fatty acid).
