Guest guest
My heart almost beat out of my chest when I smelled Drifting Sparks by Fong of Artemisia Natural Perfumers. As soon as I smelled it I felt myself to immediately be transported to the middle of a running stream in a very vivid green place just before dawn. It was a dawn in which, standing right in the water of the stream, I can still smell the night flowers hanging from their vines finally closing as the light increases; but their perfume hangs in the air as the sun rises, seemingly leaving a trail of sparks as it reflects upon the dappled water, and we begin then to smell the more soft resinous notes of forest trees as they warm in the early sun- there are cedar and bois de rose, and a honeycomb perhaps in a hollow tree nearby. Nearby, a fragrant pink rose on a vine opens to the first rays of the sun, mingling with jasmine sambac and orange blossom. There is a lingering musk all around us which Fong has created as a central musk chord composed of angelica root, ambrette, black currant, oud, sandalwood, and others. Many of these ingredients have an intensity that requires experience and skill in handling, which Fong has wrought this marvellously. Complex but never crowded, Drifting Sparks is a sensual treat from the first whiff until the last ghost of the perfume remains in a musky memory upon the skin.
