(if it isn't the tiny amounts of whey.) or maybe >it's some other irritant entirely. yes, i need to keep a food diary on her. You SHOULD keep a food diary, regardless. Very useful. As for whey -- TINY amounts of dried milk seem to set me off, more so than, say, a glass of raw milk. And yes, it makes me have problems in the urgency department. I don't know why the dried stuff should be so problematic, but it may have to do with the high heats Sally talks about. In breads and mixes they always use dried stuff. >i also remember that you wrote of a slice of pizza that terrified you. a >withdrawal symptom from an opioid, which is sedating? That is what is controversial about the " opioid " theory. It is clear that gluten and casein have a druglike effect, but for a lot of people the effect doesn't mimic opioids especially. Medical folks hotly argue that. It IS clear that gluten (not sure about casein) opens the blood/brain barrier so who knows WHAT gets in. My usual symptoms are anxiety and depression, and/or tiredness and sleepiness, but not at the same time. It isn't withdrawal though, it is about 2 hours after eating (same as the cold hands, so maybe it is too much cortisol?). When I withdrew from gluten I DID go into withdrawal but it was more like a week of total brain fog and inability to move, and severe constipation (so much so I gave up and had some crackers as a laxative, which I regretted). >my mother is sedate until someone touches her or until after several bites of >food. then she screams that she's going to die and that we're trying to kill >her. which is why i liked that opioid effect ;o) Well, if I knew of a food that was always calming! Chicken broth puts me to sleep (earlier post). Turkey is supposed to be worse. One of the typical Asperger symptoms is sensitivity to touch -- light touch makes the person hit the roof, but heavy " deep " touch (hugs) are calming. I wonder how she would react to Benadryl? I used to take one before bedtime to calm down -- it tends to counteract IgE allergens. So does a nice glass of red wine, if she'll drink it. >thanks for letting me think out loud-- >allene This group is good for that ... -- Heidi
