Guest guest
hello, all-- it has been over 3wks since i instituted various changes to my mother's diet, so it's time for an update. here are a few of the changes i implemented: 1) cut out all gluten (1-2x/wk each, she gets wild rice, millet, amaranth, quinoa, a GF/CF hamburger bun, a GF/CF sandwich bread); 2) cut out all dairy, except for butter and 1-2T/wk of creme fraiche (is that ok?) and have sub'd coconut milk in her smoothies and " ice cream " ; 3) got rid of prilosec and added a digestive enzyme; 4) upped her comsumption of raw eggs and coconut oil; 5) got rid of tylenol pm and sub'd enzymatic therapy's revitalizing sleep formula; 6) upped Bvits and added zinc. the good news: within one day, i was able to see a change. each morning for 3 yrs, i've asked my mother how she was doing, and each morning for 3 yrs the answer was the same: " hellacious " . since i've insituted the changes, the answer has been " ok " or " fine " with an occasional " terrible " and only one " hellacious " . she began urinating less frequently (my father was so happy that she was no longer wetting her depends) and began having BMs more frequently than 1x every 2days or so. we didn't have to spend an hr after each meal trying to get her to stay at the table and finish the other half of her meal. indirectly, my father became hopeful and had more energy and was able to start " massaging " my mother, who screamed the first time, but now likes it. he has also started washing her face and is getting off the caked-on crud. (she does fight this.) his homework today is to wash her abdomen, which he describes as a washboard...not from muscles, but from crud. i'm thinking that that will help get toxins out. at the very least, it might make her feel better about herself. or it might make her feel " violated " . the bad news: within the past few days, we seem to have lost the ground that we'd apparently gained: she's urinating every 30mins or so; she doesn't want to finish her meals (ok, i need to work on variety...that's another post. she loves the grains, but i am sick and tired of them and want to get veggies in her.); and her attitude is horrible. her BMs are still more frequent, which is definitely a good sign. although sometimes they are loose and sometimes she's unaware that she's pooped in her pants. and they always float now. i've downloaded the EFT tutorial, which my father is to start studying tonight. i'm looking into purchasing paul's recommended lipanase. i don't know whether her backsliding is due to too many changes too fast or whether she is physically worsening. i know i am ;o( i also wonder whether her frequent urination isn't caused by the primarin. (i haven't had the chance to get rid of that yet.) any insight? tia-- allene

First, congrats on the progress! At least you know some things help! Floating might be a sign of too much fat ... if she doesn't digest fat well. A lot of people with compromised digestion don't. MCT oil is digested very easily and helps a lot of people -- you have to start very slow because it digests so quickly that some people get cramps. But they feed it to little sick babies, it is safe, and there's a fair bit of it in mother's milk. Just add a bit to the gruel or soup or whatever. -- Heidi
