Guest guest
Musk Nouveau transported me right back to the Jazz Age. This perfume seems to contain the spirit of a young urban flapper trapped in a flacon, or perhaps a pomaded dandy wearing brushed platinum sleeve garters on his crisp sleeves. Ethier skilfully invites us to a swanky lounge where we can hear the rustle of camel-colored silk crepe and the clink of the ice in a silver cocktail shaker. She bewitches us with a narcotic corsage of champaca braced with the surprise of coffee, and divine night-blooming jasmine, all laced through with a rich, ambery note of sherry , which Ethier herself charmingly describes as 'boozy'. Playing in the background sleekly in a band we have the clarinet of black pepper playing in perfect ensemble with the saxophone of patchouli and the bass trombone of oud. The musk here is the musk of another age, as if one has somehow come upon the sillage of phine Baker who just passed by, both yesterday, and today. It might have been a fragrant ghost, but if it was, it is nonetheless a warm, vibrant one. And the final musky base note will continue, becoming more and more quietly powdery, long after you've left the club. Alfred Eberle
