Guest guest
Lierre, Maybe you really do need lots more minerals since your cravings for junk food are so strong. As I've experimented and upped my minerals my cravings have dissapated..... to a degree (at least I'm able to somewhat control my afternoon coca-cola dependance) I'm glad you reminded me about Ross's work. I need to go back over it again. I really understand the inability to control junk food binges. I deal with that one continually especially as I've gotten closer to menopause. I'm 49. I used to be able to use will power and it would work. But now I can find myself unable to stop the thoughts of coke, potatoe chips, chocolate bars. oreos....I cannot have it around at all! I don't even enjoy the taste of the stuff ...except chocolate. The cravings are weird because they come on in the afternoon between 2-4pm. If I can force myself to not eat sugary or starchy stuff they go away. BUT it is an extreme effort to stay away from the junk if it's around. I know this is hormonal esp as it seems to be increasing as my hormones are change but I don't know exactly how to address it...or if I can get it to disappear completely. So far minerals have been helpful...(lots of saturated fats also helps but not totally). I see my teeth problems as the clue to my internal problems. In terms of being unable to resist crappy food I've found that a few things help: 1. Ultimate Food (or any non-soy based food supplement like Mercola's) before I go anywhere that junk may tempt me especially parties where I can be a bit stressed. It fills me up and helps. 2. Gymnema Sylvestre before I go anywhere sugary stuff is. It's an herbal product that causes the sweet taste buds to go dormant for a bit and it really works well for me. If you want Google it to find out more. 3. Raw liver tonics with 1 oz of liver in tomatoe juice plus extra colloidal minerals, Ca, kelp and butter oil added. This is not pleasant but not totally awful either. I always have kimchi right after downing it to cut the taste and help it digest. This has been one of the biggest pieces tpwards improving my health that I've done. 4. Heidi's chocolate saturated fat candy. (just mix powdered unsweetened chocolate with butter, coconut oil, chopped nuts, a bit of sweetner, creamed coconut, dried berries, and anything else...all to taste. Then freeze the mix. It's REALLY, REALLY yummy) 5. Cold Gerolsteiner naturally carbonated water when I get soda cravings. It also has lots of minerals (although I believe it's flouride content is high if that's a concern) I'll mix in a bit of berry concentrate. When I was trying to come up with mineral amounts and what form to take them in I used Vinny Pinto's research on the live food site, NAPD research, and a friends research into what keeps goats healthy as my primary guides. (Although right now the livefood site is on a weird tangent). Vinny's own site has his personal mineral intake: http://www.rawpaleodiet.org/nutr-supplements-1.html I would love to hear how minerals work for you if you decide to try that. Take care, Lynn
