Guest guest
FYI CE Grim MDBegin forwarded message:Dear WASH members, The Canadian Sodium Working Group have released their Sodium Reduction Strategy for Canada (July 2010) . The strategy sets out a multi-staged approach (similar to that in the UK) for sodium reduction which is based on: 1. Voluntary reduction in processed foods 2. Consumer awareness 3. Research, and a 4th component – monitoring and evaluation which cuts across all three areas. The strategy identifies an interim sodium intake goal of a population average of 2300mg of sodium per day to be achieved by 2016. The ultimate goal is to lower sodium intakes to a population mean (greater than 95%) daily intake below the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) of 2,300mg per day – which means moving the population mean daily intake of sodium to the IOM recommended Adequate Intake of 1500mg per day for persons aged 9-50years, and less for those older or younger.
