Lyndon, First two thoughts: check for your pubic disc to be awry and/or look for a drift of abdominal tissues into the ipsilatral pelvic fossa. That will sometimes light up the sciatic nerve fingerlings into the leg. Recently I've noticed a sharp, burning pain from my anterior lower left

leg down the top of my left foot to the big toe when I plantar flex my

big toe or perhaps cross my ankles when I'm laying down and

inadvertently rub my right Achilles tendon over the top (anterior)

portion of my left lower leg at about ankle level. I can also reproduce

the pain by pressing my thumb into the front of my left lower leg at,

again, about ankle level. So, I'm assuming it's the anterior tibial

nerve, but I'm not sure what I did to stir it up. Any suggestions for

resolving this conditon? It doesn't bother me walking, etc., so it's not

inhibiting my lifestyle. It only does it when I plantar flex and point

my big toe. And I do get some numbness/tingling along that same

trajectory if I hold the foot in plantar flexion for a few seconds.

Thanks Bob/Joe/Sunny.

The only thing I can think of that may have set this off is from

wearing some water sandals when I fish for steelhead on the river

(which is once or twice a week) that have a strap that goes over

that part of my lower leg about ankle level. It's possible I have

had the strap too tight and it may have compressed the nerve while

maximally dorsiflexing and plantarflexing my feet climbing up and

down the river bank. It's also about a 1/2 mile walk to the river

over some rough farmland, and I wear the sandals both ways. The fact

that I can reproduce the pain by pushing on the exact spot on the

front of my lower leg where the strap crosses over seems to indicate

that I may have injured the nerve at that level. I'll chuck the

sandals and see if that helps. However, any suggestions on how to

heal it up faster (ice/heat/ultrasound/no dairy, etc.) are welcomed.

This sounds like medial dorsal cutaneous nerve

entrapment, aka footballer’s ankle. Micro-current, ankle CMT, laser, KT tape

and Graston of fascial impingement.
