If there is no renin or aldo (hormones that can cause high blood pressure) in your blood then are you eating licorice (that really good black candy from Holland esp) every day?Read my evolution article and tell us what stage you think your are in.CE Grim MDDear Dr Grim and all friends, I am newcomer in this yahoogroups and I even was not yet diagnosed with Coon's syndrome or pheo, but Cscan found a lump on my adrenal and my blood pressure is extremely high, often over 200/100 and is uncontrollable by any medications. I feel all the same symptoms that you described here. For last 3 months I was three times in the hospital for more than three weeks, but they didn't find hormones neither in my blood nor in my 24 urine test. Now I am looking for a good knowledgeable in Coon's syndrome endocrinologist.Could anybody recommend me such a doctor in Pittsburgh, PA or vicinities?I would appreciate it greatly. I am 66 years old, my English is far from perfect, I am also diabetic, I live alone and I am extremely scared, frustrated and almost paralized in my efforts to do anything. Guest guest
Dear Dr. Grim, My K is normal in all tests. I cannot take betablockers and calcium channel blockers - they increase my blood pressure to 220/120. So, I am now on 80 mg of micardis twice a day, 10 mg of lisinopril once a day and 0.25 mg of clonidine. I still have two-three times a day spikes of BP about 200/100. I know that in a hospital they didn't find any aldo in my blood. My 24 hours urine test showed PLASMA RENIN ACTIVITY 0.36 ALDOSTERONE 1.9 It seems normal, but I suffer absolutely all symptoms of hyperaldosteronism. I never ate licorice and didn't hear about it never in my life. I would be happy to read your article. Could you please, give me a title and link to it? I appreciate your help very much. Guest guest
Hi Natasha, You say you are on ARB+ACEI combo. Guest guest
ARB/ACE-inhibitor combo not recommended in CHF September 8, 2009 | Nainggolan Download slides Barcelona, Spain - The combination of angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs) and ACE inhibitors should not be used to treat congestive heart failure (CHF), because the benefits do not outweigh the risks, according to the results of a new meta-analysis. Dr Kuenzli (University Hospital, Basel, Switzerland) reported the findings at the European Society of Cardiology 2009 Congress last week. Kuenzli and colleagues found that the combination of ARB and ACE inhibitor reduced hospitalizations for heart failure but did not affect mortality or hospitalizations overall and was associated with adverse events. "Combination therapy is expensive and has the risk of serious side effects, such as hyperkalemia and worsening renal failure," senior author Dr Alain Nordmann (University Hospital) told heartwire. "[This] combination therapy should not be used unless you encounter a problem with treating a patient or the patient is not doing well on therapy with beta blockers and/or ACE inhibitors," he said. Nordmann said it may be that specific heart-failure patients might benefit from this combination—for example, those with good renal function or younger patients—and that he and his colleagues had hoped to try to identify such candidates by performing an individual patient-data meta-analysis. "But unfortunately, the principal investigators of the trials that were industry sponsored—such as CHARM—were not willing to share their data, so we had to rely on aggregate data to conduct this meta-analysis." Before anyone goes on to conduct another randomized controlled trial in this patient population, he says it "would be really helpful to do an individual patient-data meta-analysis, so that the patients who would benefit most from combination therapy could be identified." I cannot take betablockers and calcium channel blockers - they increase my blood pressure to 220/120. So, I am now on 80 mg of micardis twice a day, 10 mg of lisinopril once a day and 0.25 mg of clonidine. I still have two-three times a day spikes of BP about 200/100.
