Zinc - and elements in periodic table

I remember being told by Dr D that I was giving supps the wrong way a couple of yrs ago now.

He said something about receptor sites and uptake, in other words some of what I was giving might just as well have been flushed away!

I'm not a scientist[that surprised you all, eh?] but improved a whole lot when everything was spaced as he said it should be.

He said to give Zinc at lunch time, no idea why? but fessing up here, I didn't do that as it seems to help with sleep so I always give at bedtime.

I've been reading that zinc is best given away from other minerals - so we are now giving it with probiotics and aminos (between lunch and dinner and then again at bed time). Does anyone know if this isn't OK? I wondered about giving a mineral with probios? But we have to compromise about the number of things we are giving each day.

>>I give the same cocktail with no problems :) Some kids get major stomach upset with zinc on empty tummy (my eldest feels nauseous) in which case Andy Cutler says give them with food. Sam doesn't seem to have issue with this (that I can tell anyways) so I give on empty stomach with the probios and aminos

Hi everyone,

We have been looking (yet) again at Eddie's minerals. I thought I

would share our big lesson with zinc ...

What we've learnt is that Eddie really really needs his zinc. If we

reduce it much below (from memory roughly) about 35-40mg per day he

becomes autistic within a day or two. Repeating questions, getting

_very_ anxious and asking what you are saying before you can get more

than a word out. When we give him some zinc he is better within the

hour!! I don't suppose we would believe it if we hadn't seen it

happen a few times. Too much zinc isn't good (I think Amy Yasko

calls it a double-edged sword).

I've been reading that zinc is best given away from other minerals -

so we are now giving it with probiotics and aminos (between lunch and

dinner and then again at bed time). Does anyone know if this isn't

OK? I wondered about giving a mineral with probios? But we have to

compromise about the number of things we are giving each day.

ALSO ...I've also been looking at what minerals compete and I

realized (sorry if you all knew this already) - that the minerals

that compete are in the same period table columns. So these are

elements that have the same number of electrons in their outer ring -

so they react in the same way and hence compete. It was quite a

revelation to me - I had assumed it was all much more complicated and

chemical (though of course there is necessarily more complexity) but

this simple explanation is quite tangible to me.

So there is calcium and magnesium together

scroll down on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thallium

and strontium too (found in teeth)

Also sodium and potassium (left hand side nos 11 and 19)

Also iodine is in the same column as fluorine and chlorine - and for

example fluoride causes iodine deficiency

http://www.apfn.org/apfn/fluoride.htm

Does this make sense?

I've not thought much about the (pink) elements in the middle

(including zinc).

Best wishes,

Sandy

Thanks Mandy and Vicky.

I think I did read that zinc was good taken at night - but it sounds

like with everything we have to see what suits our children.

Good to hear it's OK with probios too.

Best wishes,

Sandy
